Larry,
This was a problem with the 2000, 740 and 540. In nearly every case it was a poor solder joint on the small board where the power supply plug plugs into the keyboard. I fixed three of them myself for guys that live in my area. On one board, there was no solder at all on the connections. The wires were just poked through the printed circuit board and no solder was applied during the manufacturing process.
If you have a small soldering iron, try resoldering the connections that connect the power supply jack to the printed circuit board. This could very likely solve your problem.
As for the weight of the keyboard bending the PC board--it cannot happen. Well, maybe it could if an elephant sat upon a keyboard supported by an X-Stand. The normal weight of the keyboard, and the construction angles would prevent any flexing of the case.
Good Luck,
Gary
