I should start out by saying I should kick myself in the head for my finicky and abrupt attempt to sell my Yamaha S970, WTF was I thinking? blushToday I said to myself let me sit down and dig into what this S970 can really do and I am pleasantly finding new features I didn't know were there. As I am always trying to downsize my rig and travel to jobs with as less as possible to perform with and setup. So I did some experimenting and I am so happy that when I plugged in my laptop to the S970 AUX input I found that I can using the LIVE CONTROL knobs I can assign one knob to control the Volume of the songs played from the LT & one knob to control Vol of the MIC BRILLANT!! This in turn will let me eliminate my mixer as i also have dug deep into the MIC Effects to find a usable solution to singing thru the KB and when needed using the VH2 harmony...
both are pretty acceptable vs my previous S model arranger KBs in the past or any PSR.. I will also say the speakers in the S970 after much testing are definitely better the my old S950,
why I don't know but I do know what I'm hearing headphone .

I'll dig deeper when I get some more time....
So for now I'm a very Happy Yamaha S970 player
Thank you for listening.

I'm happy that you're happy! smile

I think many of us tend to get carried away with the "newer is better" mentality, before we really know what our present gear can do. It's a North American mindset. It's also what keeps the economy running. So, if you think about it, it's our North American duty to help our economy buy continually buying the latest keyboards! smile

I'm speaking for myself; I get anxious a few times a year wanting to know what new keyboard will come out, and when I find out, I drool. Then, when the excitement wears off, I start looking again for the next new thing.

Can't wait for Musikmesse!

Mike ...
all I ever want is that my gear serve my needs in the best way possible FOR ME!
it's an ever changing process sometimes good, ....sometimes not so good,...we all make mistakes,
we all make different choices,......main thing if something doesn't work out no big deal,
jump back up on the horse and try again there are no rules.

Donny,
We all have different personalities; yours is to get excited about a new keyboard, so what! I owned and sold three Kn7000 – I now own my fourth Kn7000.

Part of the problem, if you consider changing keyboards often a problem is this forum; It is not possible (for me) to read and hear about how wonderful the new S 970 is without being tempted.

Can you ever forget how excited you got when you were waiting for the FedEx truck to come.

Hey, the forum would become a bit boring if it weren’t for people like you.

John C.
PS, Donny, ya wanna buy my keyboard? (grin)

Thanx John....I hear you even though I've been buying gear for so many years it never gets tiring...KN 7000 was a fine KB with a super speaker system, I just didn't care for the sunken keybed I would always hit my fingers on the ends,...the flip up display was a kool design also. Hope your happy as well.

Uh, Tony... I expected the usual 'pushback' anytime I post ANYTHING...just not from you. So what? I should just join the usual chorus of "Oh Donny, you poor thing, I feel your pain". Hey, I'm sympathetic to the first two or three "same ol, same ol" repeated mistakes, but not the next ten. And yes, I do read a few of DNJ's posts; if I didn't I'd have to skip over 90% of the forum....just sayin'.

I've heard members called out MANY times on this forum without so much as a whisper, sometimes justly, sometimes not so much, but if I, me, chas, decides to 'call BS' on someone, out comes the 'Wrath of God Squad'. All I'm asking is BE CONSISTENT; just treat me the same as everybody else.

Have a nice day.

What I liked in the original post was “As I am always trying to downsize my rig and travel to jobs with as less as possible to perform with and setup.” That’s me for sure. Not what does it sound like, or the cost (altho’ important)----but, how much does it weigh and how much stuff do I have to tote to still provide a good product!

Same boat here.

I'm still thinking about the PA4X. I know it's a superior instrument.

BUT

The S970 is a great machine. I've been putting in hours reprogramming it and it does a nice job...not as good as my Tyros but good. And I'm also finding lots of stuff I didn't know the S970 can do.

If I TRY to sell my S970 around here I'll be lucky to get 60% of what I paid for it just a few months back. And I think of time wasted reprogramming.

Then there's the issue of learning the PA4X OS, and reprogramming my show...lots of hours.

I could buy the PA4X without selling anything...but what am I going to do with 4 keyboards? Arrangers, the way I use them, aren't like a guitar that you just pick up and play.

Donny, your not the only one that goes through changeitis.

One other thing I should mention:

I've bought two new keyboards in the past number of months, the S970 and a DGX 650 I just had to have.

Also stopping me (from ordering the 4X) is the look I know I'm going to get from my wife; who is actually a real keyboard player.

I haven't quite sold her yet on the concept that I'm part of an Arranger A Month club.

Donny, happy yes, but not content.; at least not until it’s all over.
It is frustrating not to be able to see and play the new models – so here’s to the Synthzone, it’s loaded with information.

Almost my buying and selling has been done right here on Synthzone; and I have never been hurt

“Took me 3 to find that out for sure.. just sayin”

OK, Donny, my story:

1-In my first marriage my guitar was my escape. Because of my dedication; hours on hours, I became a professional guitar player.

2-The second marriage found me falling in love with arranger keyboards. Because of my dedication; hours on hours, I became a professional OMB keyboard player.

3-In my third marriage I learn how to pray! Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah

Trying to be humble, John C.

Donny...it'a OK....I'll get one one way or the other.
I still think the Yamaha sound & styles suit my kind of music and playing better than the other arrangers. Korg is cheaper & much more deep, and a great kbd...but for what I play...I see very few demos on youtube etc that address my kind of songs. My gosh the PA4XPRO is WAY cheaper than the T5. I still think the T5 is way over priced...but I guess if folks buy them at that $$ Yamaha will keep it up.

IMHO the T5 should be $3500 with the speakers.
