Personally, I never thought the EX sounded robotic, and for the most part sounded a lot like Digitech's midi-volcalist. The VR, however, at least to me, seems to provide a richer, fuller sound, and adds a bit more depth to the harmonies. I have not heard the TC in person, but I have heard several recordings done by trjazz and others using the device. The harmonies ranged from good to excellent on the recordings, but I'm not convinced they are $700 better than the VR. Additionally, the VR is easy to use, and for live performances, it's tough to beat. I'm not sure if Digitech has changed the VR during the past two years, but the first one I heard did not sound nearly as good as the current model--that's why I upgraded from the midi-Vocalist.
