Anyone using a Roland KC-150 amp I would like to know how it works. All the reviews of this amp are good, but to use as an arranger amp with vocals I think this is the evaluation venue that I need.

Hank,

Buy the Bose L-1 and you'll never look back at conventional sound systems.

Gary: I don't understand your response. Hank asked for opinions about a $350 amp and you tell him to buy a $2,000 solution. Of course it's better, but it is also in a different league. Next time I replace my Altima, I guess I should look at the Mercedes.

Hank: I have no direct experience using the Roland but I have heard it as a keyboard only amp and it did have a nice tone in a small setting. I am currently happily using the Logitech z5500 (Street $280+) with my T2. Downside is it has five speakers and related wires.

Hank's got 2 G70's...Money is no object

At guitar center, I played a Korg keyboard thru a KC-150 and I was not pleased with the sound. It, like most 2-staged woofer/horn styled amps i've tried, seem to sound congested, too much coming out of 1 speaker, lows sounding unclean, but highs OK, mids lacking. My ears hear the same thing in the Peavey's and the Yorkville's of which I have actually used. Especially with higher volume settings. I thought that the 12 inchers would have decreased this but it was about the same as I experienced with the 15 inchers. These experiences were all using only 1 amp at a time.

I like the Behringer Ultratone 3000 a lot, but not enough to use on a job without the sound enhancement of the Z5500's (thats only because i've played using both the ultratone + Z5500's simultaneously and experienced how well the 2 working together, cover the frequencies so nicely)
Its a bummer to set all of that up though but I have.

Hank, I would think that your Barbetta's would do the job for you...No?

Hank I bought a KC 150 about 2 years ago when I got my start playing gigs. At the time it sounded much better than an old Peavey Kb100 that was given to me. I was never really happy with the Kc150 just sounded to "muddy" to me. I later moved to the z5500s, but for many of the one hour gigs, I found to be a pain in the butt to set up. Fast forward to May of this year. I bought a single Barbetta 31c. I'm happy with the sound of the Barbetta. Light enough for the 1 hour gigs, very decent sound and it easily stacks on my rock n roller sytle cart.

I love my Barbetta and would use them but they are being used in the Rock-A-Billy band I work with. Right now they are in the trailer on the other side of town. I just need something to use for small gigs that I do as a single or duo when I'm not with the band. I could unload the trailer or get to the job over an hour early with the trailer to help setup but I've become very lazy and this is not an option so I let the young guys keep the trailer.

Hank, try my Logitech system. It will be perfect for Nursing Homes. I'll call you in the morning.

I gig with a single Motion Sound KT-80 (was $399 when I bought it, it's up to $575 or so now....go figure). It's 100 watts and has been fine for events with up to 100-150 people so far. I've used it with my PSR-630, then the 2000, and now the 3000, and the sound is excellent, to my ears. It's 30 pounds and very easy to transport.

Robert,

I didn't notice anything in Hank's orriginal post about the price tag--just that he was looking for a good amp for his arranger keyboards and doing vocals. Most of the Roland amps I have tried over the past two decades just didn't seem to cut it--regardless of price. Same holds true for most of the Peavey amps I've owned as well. That's why I suggested the Bose L-1 over the Roland.

Cheers,

Gary

Gary: Point well taken. I'll look at the Ferrari too. Can you put a car seat in it?
