This M-AUDIO firewire audio interface offers great features like 24/192K, and is listed for $499. I just bought one at Guitar Center for $299. If you are in the market for a high quality audio interface you may want to take a look at this one.

Hi Russ, the Firewire 410 is certainly a nice choice and well priced at $299, but after A/B ing it side by side with the 'Presonus Firebox':
http://www.presonus.com/firebox.html

I opted for the slightly more expensive Presonus Firebox ($325) because it appears to me to be a lot more solidly built and with specific feature advantages.

I appreciate the Firebox for its solid build, impressive clean sound, quiet performance, & small & compact footprint. I especially appreciate that its knobs & panpots include infinite click points making it easy to customize & memorize the settings. To top this off, Presonus (a much smaller company) provides the BEST free online (800 number) technical support I've ever experienced. The Presonus tech support specialist took lots of time walking me thru the complete setup of not only the Presonus Firebox, but Cakewalk Sonar 4, and all my other music software as well, in getting them to work optimally together. How many other company's tech support specialists would offer to do this? Interestingly enough, I own an M-Audio Delta-66 soundcard, and can't remember M-Audio offering me that kind of service.

Scott

Russ,
This is outside the topic, just noticed that you're in Dallas area, do you play anywhere? I am from Dallas as well.

Not very many.

Scott, I couldn't agree with you more. An excellent product plus excellent support is a no-brainer, especially for those of us who are 90% musicians and 10% (or less) technicians. BTW, PG Music (PowerTracks Pro) fits that catagory, IMO.

Thanks for your post Scott.

Can you tell me what audible difference can be heard between using a 96K sampling rate and a 192K sampling rate? I realize that CD quality is generally 48K, and that the ear can not hear any greater than 20K.

So then, the obvious answer would be that there is no recognizable difference between sampling at 96K vs 192K... which leads me to ask, if there is no perceptible difference, then why do they even make the 192K sampling rate? There must be some advantages to 192K sampling rate.

Confused... Russ
