Hi Folks.
“I have the KN2600” I did have the KN2400. You will know the KN2400 had a floppy drive. Can anyone give me information, on the following?
I would like to know when Technics brought out the KN2600. Did they leave in the connections/configurations/ PC boards? of the KN2400. To be specific, I would like to add a Floppy drive to the KN2600 and from an earlier post this would seem to be the only way to achieve it. The space for the floppy is present on the KN2600, But is that just because Technics used the same case construction, to save on costs, that is feasible. Economical, it is a strange question, or maybe not! But if I don’t ask it, “I will never know”. We have some clever people on our site. But this is a specialist question. An engineer would know maybe! I don’t expect miracles. But I have seen some miraculous answers. I wonder if the Circuits of the KN2400 and KN2600 would answer the Post
Sincerely.
Joe.

Logic would suggest a common main board be used for both machines to maximise buying in cost efficiency though volume. The board could then be populated with a different set of components for each production line 2400 or 2600. Aside from the difficulty of the differences in tooling of openings in the outer casing, the next problem might be whether the internal bus system to the micro can accept two input routes from floppy and SD like the KN7000, or whether one input is "hard wired" via firmware to only recognise either one or the other. The firmware would certainly need modifying to enable the SD load button to recognise the floppy too and then bring up a floppy menu system. A further problem might be the actual floppy drive since on previous boards these have been proprietary interfaces meaning that a cheap pc floppy drive would not necessarily fit. Sorry to be negative but it does perhaps seem a complicated hardware and software modification.

If you could describe why you need a floppy some workarounds can be suggested. For instance I have always used the supplied 8MB card as a means of quickly transferring many files from pc to SD in card reader with windows explorer using no software at all. Likewise if you want to email a file to someone from SD card or copy to a floppy no software is needed again. You only need software to start tidying up further additions to cards, make larger cards from smaller, renaming etc etc.

Hi Alec.
Yes, I see what you mean, I agree on the point of cost saving. It makes sense and it is a ploy I used often when I was estimating for a living.
I think maybe the input connections on the KN2400 have been utilised to input the SD card on the KN2600.
So, it’s as you said, another input would be required.

The reason for wanting the floppy drive was convenience.
I have lots of Floppies from the KN2000.and when I loaded then into the KN2400 they worked very. So they will also work with the KN2600 I feel sure. I understand when you say this can be achieved by other methods, probably putting the styles from floppy onto an SD card. This is the easiest solution! I can see from your explanation, If it could be achieved it would be an awful lot of work to gain so little. Your explanation was a good one based on fact, and of course experience. Thanks for the reply, I did say if I don’t ask, I will never know, Now I am the wiser for asking!!!.
Sincerely.
Joe

The quickest no-cost way to get your floppies on to SD is the one I posted when the 7k was first launched:

If pc experienced, just duplicate the folder structure on a blank SD card, PRIVATE\TECHNICS\KN7000\TFLD00X, making as many TFLD00X folders as you like (up to 99), say TFLD001 to TFLD010. Then drag and drop one floppy contents into each TFLD00X folder.

If not pc experienced, format the 8MB card, save anything in the first file of each of the first 10 folders say. Transfer to card reader, go to each TFLD00X folder and erase all the contents to empty the folder. Then up to the KN7000 folder and erase the KN7000MN.inf file and also the KN7000MN.bak file if it is there. The card is now prepared; drag and drop the contents of one floppy to each TFLD00X folder.

The files will now show up in the screen with the floppy file names ready to load. The card can now be tweaked up, backed up, folder contents and files erased and used for a new set of floppies or pc backups, to be backed up then merged with the previous set of transfers in Song Manager.

Once you have resaved anything on the KN you will have to use software for further transfers to that card and for that it's simple to add a complete new floppy to a new folder with Song Manager and a card reader in one operation, or use a more sophisticated extra program like Fred's KN-SDExplorer.

There is even a much better solution:

Just copy all you floppies to your hard disk first, in such a way that you have maximal 20 songs in a folder. Give the folder names as if you would name them in the keyboard.
Now get yourself our "Must_have" tool, as our customers mention it. See details, specs, FAQ, tutorial and demo version:

http://kn-sdexplorer.has.it

With our tool you can "initialize" an SD Card, then open it in our tool and import your songs, one folder (of max 20 songs) at a time, by simply dragging from Windows Explorer into our tool, which also looks and behaves like Explorer.

With our tool you can move/copy songs and folders on an SD-Card, but also import and export from Technics SD-Card to PC.

Fred
You must be honest and admit that Alec's trick of getting the floppies onto a blank SD card
is exactly the same but does not cost anything
