Would anyone know why a web page would look all jumbled and scrambled for one person(me) and not others? That is, words on top of words, sentences on top of sentences.

I am refering to Bill Norries fine Technics site that does not "display" correctly for me.

I'm using a PC with XP and a screen resoulution of 1024 X 768. I cleared out IE cache, but it did not help.

Here is a screen capture picture of Willum's site as it appears on my computer: http://s52.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=1J6BN2QRJ2E8V3C1ZXQUNN33KB

Compare this to the same link on his page, and let us know if you have a similar problem. http://mysite.wanadoo-members.co.uk/willumspages/Page7.html

But better yet, if you know the reason for the "messed up" page display, please let me know why, and how to correct it. Both Bill and I can't figure this one out.

Thanks for your help, and Happy Holidays

Hi Larry,

As requested, I clicked on Willums site shown in your posting and got a warning message from Microsoft saying my computer could be infected from SPYWARE and advised not to go any further which I didn't.

Maybe you've got some sort of 'bug' on your PC. I just hope it's not on mine now. I think I'll try Willum's site from my own PC and see what happens. I'll keep you posted.

Hi Larry,

My own web address for Willum's Site brought it up as it should be. (Whew! what a relief)
I hope it doesn't mean trouble for you. Can I suggest you try another site to see whether it's the same, that way you'll know if it is your PC.

Good luck!

its a common problem seen in amateur pages with various older basic html editing programs, for example created at 1024x768 frames, something will be displaced at 1600x1200 by missing header information, or fine in IE5 will be messed up in IE6, or fine in IE will be all over the place in Netscape etc, too many variables to be specific but it looks like the page might be better off as one layer. That particular page is fine on my 17inch 1440x900 widescreen for example but just as jumbled up on my 16inch 1600x1200 laptop. Beyond all the latest windows updates not a lot you can do at your end - see how it looks in Firefox?

Larry,

I don't if this can help but check the browser settings under View Text Size and Encoding.

Also check that you have both "Times New Roman", "Serif" fonts installed on your computer.

This is all very interesting. I created my web site several years ago and based it on 800 X 600 resolution, which I was told is standard for web pages. I would be interested in knowing if my site comes up properly, due to so many changes. http://www.garnetrecords.com/

nsr007, your web site displays perfectly for me.

Heather, under text size I have medium ticked, and under Encoding I have Western European. (sidebar question...should 'auto select' be checked?)
I also have all the standard fonts that came with Windows XP.

I have not noticed any other web sites with Willum's display problem. In fact, I don't remember Willum's site displaying "all over the place". But then, it's been a while since my last visit.

I keep my computer up to date, have no virus's, and regularly 'clean up', so this is why I'm puzzeled.

I'll try Firefox Browser, and report my results. I thought something was wrong with my IE6 settings, but as Alec pointed out, certain variables can contribute to a jumbled display as indicated on his various computers

Thanks
Larry

Same messed up results with Firefox.
The mystery continues...

Thanks, guys for telling me my site comes up OK. I made sure it came up in both Internet Explorer and Netscape. I prefer using Netscape as a browser because I get my mail there. Netscape is so much faster as a browser than Internet Explorer and especially, getting and sending email.
