I purchased a Tyros 4 about 10 months ago, a Korg PA3x about 2 months ago. Never even heard of Ketron until a bout a week ago when I stumbled on some YouTube clips. I purchased one yesterday with a 30 day money back policy. In my opinion the realism of the Audya 5 drums and guitar are unmatched. That being said I'm having some problems with the Piano sounds though. Seems a little tinney. Need to play around with it some more. But not too familiar with the equalization functions yet.

Very familiar with the Yamaha and Korg OS but this is my first ever Ketron experience so I have a bunch of questions that might be really easy for you guys who seem to have extensive knowledge.

1) Noticed that certain styles only allow a certain range of tempo. In other words you cannot bring the tempo above, let's say, 160. Can that be overwritten?

2) When you want to choose a voice while playing live, as soon as you select the voice family, it automatically selects the first voice on the list or the last voice you used. Is there any way to force the keyboard not to select the new voice until you actually choose it like the Korg (The Tyros seems to work like the Ketron)? Sometimes I don't want the last voice I used in that category.

3) Does the Audya 5 have anything like "Pads" that you find on the Tyros and Korg PA's? The Pads really help when you want to add a little extra to style on the fly.

WOW, you own all 3 keyboards? nice

as far as increasing tempo
you have to remember the Audya uses mostly Audio drums, REAL drums
that's why they sound so damn good
when you deal with audio, there is only so much you can speed it up, slow down, before it starts to sound "choppy"

so i'd recommend staying within 20% of original tempo, if you have to go more than that, then you probably picked the wrong style for that song, and there are probably other styles more appropriate (closer to your desired tempo)

i own the Audya4 (module), and want the Audya5 (keyboard)

if you decide to keep it over 30 days, and wanna sell it, let me know :-)

i guess the reason you never heard Ketron is because you are in USA, they are more popular in Europe,
and because Audya is almost impossible to see in any music store,

i mean you can't find one in Manhattan,NY go figure

with that said, i love Audya,

let me know what you think after you play with it some more, and compare to your Kord, and Yamaha

SteveB,

First of all, congratulations on your purchase of the KETRON AUDYA product - an instrument I believe will bring you years of fine music indeed.

Now to answer your questions ....

1) Noticed that certain styles only allow a certain range of tempo. In other words you cannot bring the tempo above, let's say, 160. Can that be overwritten?
>>>AJ:- No (unless you EDIT the style in PATTERN EDIT and remove the AUDIO DRUMS). The reason being that these styles use AUDIO DRUMS which can only be stretched by about 30% above and below the original recorded BMP before it looses quality in the Audio Drums. With the AJAMSONIC package option installed, we've provided (in the Remix styles group) the same style (for an example) but where the AUDIO drums were recorded at higher and lower BPM. This allows you to have (8Beat1a, 8Beat1b, 8Beat1c) where between all 3 styles you have a wider BMP range from 40 to say 240 as each one picks off where the other ends ... hope this makes sense?

2) When you want to choose a voice while playing live, as soon as you select the voice family, it automatically selects the first voice on the list or the last voice you used. Is there any way to force the keyboard not to select the new voice until you actually choose it like the Korg (The Tyros seems to work like the Ketron)? Sometimes I don't want the last voice I used in that category.
>>>AJ:- Yes. This default selection (Voice Select MODE = 2 above) is what most of our players prefer. You can however choose (MENU - KEYBOARD CONTROL - UTILITY - VOICE SELECT MODE =1) where the voice gets selected ONLY after you select (using F1-F10) the actual voice - great for when playing live and you are 'searching' for a voice and don't want your audience to 'hear you ' search.
These kinds of features, and functions are elaborately explained in our 3+hrs DVD tutorial available to all. We take you step by step showing you the why, when, where and explaining all features (as of 4.0b).

3) Does the Audya 5 have anything like "Pads" that you find on the Tyros and Korg PA's? The Pads really help when you want to add a little extra to style on the fly.
>>>AJ:- No. However with the AJAMSONIC package you have ARPS and PAD/SYNTH sounds which you can assign to the LOWER VOICE on the fly (in STYLE VIEW MODE) and use just as you have PADS in other manufacturers. The good thing about these are they follow your chords as you change while you play! You can change their octave, volume, effects, pan ... etc ... all on the fly. The factory Arps (STYLE VIEW - CHORD 4) can only be used with the ARRANGER/STYLE ENGINE.

We are working on organizing some workshops in the NJ/NY area and will keep you posted on dates and times.

Hope this helps.

Thanks,

Super helpful. Will look out for the workshop.

Any ideas on the Piano issue or is it possible that the Ketron piano is not their strong point? It's perfectly normal for some keyboards to be better at some things and not others. Don't think the perfect keyboard exists. Would be nice if it did.

Thanks,
Steve

Yes, there is a great Stereo GRAND Piano sound in the HD that you can load. This is a huge sample and as such, takes a few seconds more to load.

You also have 4 Stienway Grand piano samples in the Hard Drive of the AJAMSONIC upgrade. Piano sound is very subjective and depending on what acoustic piano you were raised playing (a Baldwin, Steinway, Yamaha ... etc), you will always have a preference of one over the other and many keyboard manufactures (apart from those who make acoustic pianos) are faced with a similar choice - of which to offer in their products.

Thanks,

Thanks AJ

I was just thinking, what if I gave back the Audya 5 and got and Audya 4 and attached it to my Korg PA3X. Would I get both the functionality of a full Audya 5 and still be able to use the Korg PA3X for certain sounds and styles? or would that be a huge mess?

Thanks
Steve

StevenB,

The only mess is you would be carrying/using an extra item with a Midicable. Both units are identical (have identical functions, main parts... etc) as Leezone describes above. All you loose are 61 keys and mode & bend wheels (which you can use on the Korg).

Yes, you can actually midi both units such that you get ...e.g.

* Styles from Ketron, lead sounds from Korg.
* Styles from Korg (played through AUDYA 4 with Ketron Sounds)
* Styles from Korg (tracks 1 and 2 sounds from Korg, tracks 3-5 sounds from Ketron)
* Styles from KETRON (with endless combinations of RIGHT/LEAD voices)
* Styles from KETRON (tracks 1 and 2 sounds from Ketron, tracks 3-5 sounds from Korg)
Hope this helps.

Thanks,

AJ
