Is there... or could I adapt a small midi pedal to play a drum beat when tapped? I think this would be a great asset when playing piano or guitar solo. It would need to transmit a note on/off message.

Can this be done with a regular drum machine, ala SR16... ? If one programmed a single bass beat for one measure and then used the tap speed control, would that work?

Maybe a bit pricey, but no MIDI or anything else to get messed up...

That's the inspiration for this post, Diki. They're in the $175-250 range. I have a friend who's going to attempt making one for me. But a midi solution might be nice too. I'm pretty much sure the drum machine thing would work, but who wants to carry around another piece of electronics if it's not necessary.
