Zalmi,
I agree that the bass (and the kick drum) shouldn't have much reverb.
Another thing I noticed: at the beginning of your songs there is always a strange noise, like a white noise... was that a deliberate thing?

Thanks Tony, interesting that what bothers one is ok to another. My brother is very talented, I think he is more musically sensitive than I am (he picks up on pitch discrepencies much better than I do), and he's got a real soul in his playing. I'm going to forward your messages to him!

Dreamer, I think the white noise you're talking about (which isn't on the last track I posted) is what I intended to be a kind of atmospheric wind/air/blowing sound, which is basically meant to set the atmospheric mood for the song. Do you think it's out of place or ambiguos? I always appreciate honest observations. Thanks.

Zalmi

Zalmi,
actually (but this is just my taste) I would have preferred an eerie sound or maybe a pad at the beginning, to set the mood.

Fair enough. I'll keep it mind for the next track I do in that kind of style. I'll make sure to give you a listen before I finish it! Thanks,
Zalmi

Very nice Zalmi,

Forgive me, but I don't recognize any of these Hasidic tunes (and I know at least hundreds of them) - where are they from?

Very nice how you mixed the 'old' with the 'new.' I think there's a market for that - but I would suggest that if you want to break in to the Hasidic market you should start with some more well-known melodies.

Thank you Chony.

The first in the thread is a Mozitzer Niggun (Proik Yos Anoch), which is quite famous, the second is a Lubavitcher Niggun (R' Leivik's I think, sung on Simchas Torah) which is only famous in Chabad. I'm sure you'll recognise this one: http://www.synthzone.com/ubbs/Forum37/HTML/012166.html which I had posted earlier.

I especially appreciate your comments because you are obviously familiar with the Chasidic market. I actually tend to deliberately pick unusual songs, in order to promote them, and in order to bring fresh sounds.

Please let me know what you think of the song in the thread above.

Zalmi

The first one I didn't recognize; the second - I don't think I'm wrong - is not R' Levi Yitzchok's Nigun. RLY's Nigun is a high powered fast song.

I just listened to your other track. Very well done. If you put together another few - you can sell this no problem. I only listened to this on laptop speakers and real monitors can reveal things that I haven't yet heard - but overall, this is good and original material.

This track (thirst) is an intensely spritual song - and obviously the fact that so many people here have been moved by it - just proves this. It is a song of powerful longing and thirst and the point isn't to enjoy it - but to experience it...

When are you coming to NY? I deffinitely think that if you're interested you can produce. Let me know when you're here.

Thanks Choni.

As it happens I planned to come in this week to New York for a four month stay! I'm just waiting for a Visa, and need to sort a couple of other things out as well.

I'ld love to meet up with you in New York. I'll let you know when I have an exact travel date.

Here's another couple of tracks in the meantime: http://s40.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=2H2RRS1XWVPAU3DMLK77JTUT7E and http://s40.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=31OGCLHVU0UO81UEJ0UCJ8K39C

Again, all Chabad Chasidic ancient melodies.

Zalmi
