It was Yamaha PSR with a joystick to mix 4 different voices. It had small keys, 61 of them. Anybody recall this ? Model number ?

I had fond memories with that module. Then I bought Roland G-70 and then the Technics KN-2000SX. After that the KORG i-30 and then back to Yamaha PSR lines.

My first keyboard arranger was a G 800. Before that, I played left hand bass and used a drum machine. If you want to go way back, in the early 70's I played B 3 with a Rhythm Ace. There's an interesting story behind how I got started with that. The year was 1971, I was attending Florida State and was in a 4 piece band that played around. One of the gigs we had was a Wednesday night party for the local single's club. Well one Wednesday we showed up to play only to learn we had been replaced by a guy with a cordovox and drum machine. The other guys got mad and left. I stayed behind and watched what he did. He did a really good OMB. I said to myself, I can do that and went out and did just that. And I've been doing some form of it ever since. I presently play the G 1000. I really like the way the Roland keyboard feel. Here's to many more years of OMB.

My first arranger was a Casio tone CT 401..I can't find a picture , but it was their high end model in 1980-1981..I paid $700 for it.
After that a Casio CT6000, CT7000.
As a dealer I also had the Casio super model CT8000..

The first "Pro" models I had were Solon TSR4, MS100[mid 80's]..Early 90's I switched to the Rolands and Ketron X1 in 99'..

My first arranger keyboard was a Lowrey Micro Genie, about 1975 or 76. The software was extra and about the size of the 4 tracks we used to have. You plugged it into a slot in the keyboard and you had about 4 or 5 styles. Without the software you had Piano and maybe 12 or 15 other voices you could play. It was stereo. It cost 2600.00 and you could buy a pair of 35 watt amps with EQ's for another 225.00 each. The software styles were about 100.00 each.
AND...............I still have it and it still works.
Tonight I have ordered my very last Arranger Keyboard the Tyros 2 from Dan O'neil in Baltimore.

My first arranger was a Roland E38, in 1996. I liked it a lot at the time, except for that 'thwongy'(?) bass sound that rarely changed regardless of style. I've still got it stashed away in a cupboard somewhere - I'm a bit of a packrat, I guess. Hell, I've still got my first synth, a Micromoog from 1974.

I think the first 'keyboard' I played was Technics K series (before the AX series), but I'm not sure if that classifies as 'arranger' though.

So I guess AX-5 would be my first arranger then.

EARLY PSR, I thing PSR60, then 70, then 6100, then all through the various models. I hardly missed any through Tyros. Also Technics KN800, 1000, 2000, 5000. Roland G800. I've probably averaged one a year since they started making them.

My very first keyboard, GEM WX2 (mid eighties?) but returned it as soon as I found out it was filled with lots of bugs... My real adventure started with Technics KN2000.

KN2000, KN3000, KN5000, Solton X1, Ketron SD1, G70 (bad choice), PA1X, PA1Xpro (just not my 'type'), Tyros1 (great).... and waiting for my Tyros2 (Probably the best)

1) Roland E 20
2) Roland PRO E
3) Roland G 800
4) Roland VA7 (I guess I was a Roland guy.... ), then
5) Ketron SD1 and
6) Yamaha 9000 pro (together with the VA7); later added a
7) Ketron XD3... finally sold everything and bought a
8) Tyros.

Future: Tyros 2 and (likely) Roland G-70 (if OS 2.0 holds its promises...)
(Owning two arrangers is better than owning just one Three? Don't know: it gets complicated to pick one to play)

Interesting post this.

My first arranger was the top part of an early Clavinova - Can't remember the model but it had SIXTEEN different rythmns each with one fill and EIGHT different voices (only one at a time though) lol.

It was really heavy but there was nothing else out there with anything approaching a professional sound and I had developed positional arthritis in my shoulder as I was then playing out with a Hammond X5 with a Wurly EP200 and a Korg Delta Synth stacked on top in a residency and holding my right arm out in front of me 6 nights a week a lot of the time simply wore my shoulder joint away!

My doctor advised me to change my equipment which so I got the clavinova. This instrument also had a new feature called MIDI!!! so when a couple of years later when the (incredible) Korg M1 first came out I got me one and hooked it up. Not a bad sound for those days although I missed the Hammond sound (Mind you the X5 wasn't tonewheel so I suppose I got gradually weened off)

Those were the days eh boys - Backstrain, Hernias, Pulled Muscles and some people now complain about keyboards weighing over 25lbs.

Good Topic Dnj

Regards - Keith

First arranger keyboard...a 73 Yamaha spinet organ...don't know the model number. Had auto bass. usewd it with two 147 RV Leslies.
That was the only way we could figure out how to get both channels working. Later got a second one (about 77) and switched to a twochannel leslie. It was ransistors, and I didn't like the sound as well as the tube models.

Geez I can't even remember the model number to my very first one. It was a Yamaha (had mini keys) One (mono) speaker, sounds were terrible (my alarm clock sounds better). It had flush buttons (like the DX series). What was cool about it though is that it had some basic voice parameter buttons to edit the voices. Patterns sounded worse than my cheap basic sound card in my computer.

My next board wasn't an arranger. It was a Casio CZ-1000. Owned many synths between that time.

I didn't buy another arranger until the original DJX was released. Also bought a PSR-540, PSR-550, Casio MZ-2000, and currently use the WK-3500. Had a short run with the PSR-2000 (but had some problems there).
