Having seen this problem a number of times in the past, both Gary and I have recommended just plugging the headphone in and out repeatedly a few times sometimes clears up the problem.

You can even try this while a song or style is playing to see if there is any noise in the speakers or music.

This switch is very, very simple set of contacts that just open and close to mute or unmute the speakers.
