Yep good suggestion. That would be great for triggering this sort of sound effect ... presuming the arranger Bill is using has multipads. Though isn't multipad a preset one shot affair that wouldn't allow sustain control for varying phrase/word lengths? but if it is always just short words a predefined length might just work fine anyway.
