I have a Pa80 and normally simply record on my D1600 multitrack, however, I recently got a good deal on Sonar 2.2 and decided to see if I could learn to use it with the Pa80.

I set up 16 midi tracks in Sonar, clicked on record, hit the style catagory button on the Pa80 and then selected the particular style I wanted and started to play the song. At the end, I stopped every thing and played it back. CONFUSION and MASS NOISE! So, I started deleting tracks one at a time until there was only one left and everything sounded just like I played it, including the STS (equivalent of Yamaha OTS) changes. So what I had was a midi type 0 file. Now what I want is a midi type 1 where each instrument is on its own track. How do I set up both Sonar and the Pa80 internally to do that? I would like to be able to see each track individually so I can edit it and so I can see it as staff notation and so I can change the solo instruments to see how something different would sound without having to re-record everything.

Anyone know how to do what I want?
