Yes, Yamaha internal sound system is often more impressive than corresponding Roland, but if you connect both to an external high quality amplification system the things can change drastically.
I'm sure that Roland doesn't beef up the demos; for instance, I listened the demos of G-70 that are available on line, and they don't play better than when played from the instrument (maybe worse).
