I have had two of these up in my closet for several years. I used to put two of them on stands for small and medium size gigs, but went with the Bose Compact and Spacestation. I had been trying out several lightweight combinations, and brought down one of the CM-30 to team up with my SX-900. The sound blew me away with crisp distinct lows and highs, all with great separation. I did the same with my SD40 module with the same result. Better than the Bose in a 10x12 room.

Questions:
Since these are 30 watt monitors, I know the sound will trail off in a bigger room, but I wonder if anyone can comment, since I can't very well chance a maiden voyage at a gig.

To lighten the load and space, I wonder if one would suffice, as I have all kinds of headroom.

I use two on stands run in stereo in my loft studio. Room is about 12 X 15. They are great as I don't need a mixer and they have enough power for my arranger and piano w/vocals. I would not try to do a gig with one unless it was just a monitor but two may work in a small situation , say 50 people. Adding the second one adds to the sound tremendously. I even have a small suitcase that fits both if I ever decide to take them out. Can't get more portable than that.

Is it better to run two lines direct, or use the stereo link for one of them?

If your only running two lines from your keyboard I don't think it would matter. But having everything plugged into one unit and using the stereo link is more convenient. You don't mention if your using an outboard mic so in that case using one unit with keyboard and mic is the way to go. Keep the master unit near you for easy adjustment although once I set mine up in my studio I haven't had to touch the settings for a long time. Just run them flat and then EQ a bit from there, don't need much. They are amazing little units and really hold their value.

I used to do lots of lunch jobs for the city with two of them. 25-40 people; very quiet. The last few, I did with a neat little Alexis I bough from Donny. Works GREAT when I combine it with a hotbox monitor or a little Kustom powered monitor with a kickback feature.

Although Roland has gotten away from TOTL arrangers, I still can count on the older products. The Cubes have been a mainstay for years. My little CM-30's will do nicely for small venues.

You mention the mic, which can be outboard or into the keyboard, connected directly to the speaker. The drawback to outboard, without an added unit, is that it would not have reverb. I can get by without harmony, but not a little reverb. It looks like two CM-30's with mic and keyboard on master unit, with the slave on remote about six feet apart.

I didn't know if your keyboard had a mic input. I'm guessing one of your TOP units must. If it does go with that and get your effects there.
I did a solo piano gig with one CM30 for my mic. No effects but it worked well. Booked for 1 hour and did 4. I love those simple gigs.

I can see that, especially if it a somewhat live room. I think it sounds awful to saturate the vocal anyway.

I tried a couple of the CM-30 for a while. I definitely think you need to put them on some kind of stand, or at least tilt them upward. Placing them with the base flat on the floor made them sound muddy IMO. I graduated to a CM-110 with separate sub and I think that sounds better. I don't play out, and it's plenty powerful for my living room.
