I'm trying to record songs on Sonar 1.3.1 with a psr 740, but when I playback the song it sounds like crap. I'm using MIDI from keyboard to computer. My sound card is a Creative Soundblaster PCI 512. I'm not interested in multitracking, I just play songs for friends with accompaniment and melody all at once. Normally I play into my sony cassette recorder but now I want to be able to record onto cd's. That's why I got Sonar but I haven't mastered that yet. What else can I do or am I missing something?

Hi Digger,

I'm also running Sonar 1.31 with a Yamaha PSR keyboard (PSR2000). Are you recording everything to Sonar via midi or digitally (via audio outs of your 740) via the soundblaster card? Do you have the 740 Cakewalk instrument file installed in Sonar? Btw, the Cakewalk instrument definitions file works equally well on Sonar.

You can download the PSR740 instrument definitions file here: http://www.crestonhall.com/music/insdef/PSR740.ins
Instrument definitions file installation instructions: http://www.crestonhall.com/music/insdef_help.htm

Digger, you say your song sounds 'like crap'. I wonder if your Windows record input/output levels (speaker icon in system tray) are set properly? Please provide more details about your recording setup, method, and settings so we might be able to better assist you.

Scott

actually, I was told on another board to utilize the audio output on my soundcard which I did and now everything is ok, except it only records on the left speaker or maybe I don't have stereo speakers so that's why it only comes out the left? I have the input set at Stereo PC512 Wave In. I have a splitter I'm going to try now that should record through left and right outputs on the 740.

btw, thanks. I downloaded the 740 stuff for cakewalk. I just need to know how to get my song to play on both speakers.
