Hi, I'm going to get back in to the arranger market any day soon with the purchase of a PSR S950.

I just wanted to know is it possible on a quality arranger like this to create your own accompaniments and fills? May be a stupid question - but hey ho keys

Cheers.

Of course you can......the style creator feature will let you do all that and more ......mind you its not that simple, but its definitely a feature on almost all arranger KB's that hardly anyone uses to it's fullest potential......you can create a new style from scratch or reconstruct parts of existing styles, or mix and match parts from different styles also.
Your timing and playing must be impeccable to pull it off correctly but it can be done. Read more in the manual on this great feature.

If you want to make styles on a keyboard only, maybe Yamaha is not the best choice for you. There are things that you can't do when making styles on any Yamaha arranger.

Sure you can make your own styles! In fact, most styles I use are my own custom ones that I made from scratch. Yes from scratch. Took me a long time to figure it out, get it straight. But in the end it's worthwhile to learn how to use it, and let your creativity flow. From there you can make your music sound exactly the way YOU want.

Anyone reading this can send me an email shim100 (@) gmail (dot) com and i'll be happy to help with style making.

By the way, not to hijack this thread, my Korg pa3x is currently for sale. in great condition. Check out the other thread. It is much more capable in terms of style creating, its just that I tend to like Yamaha's sound better. Just me...

That all deppends on what one means by Make a Style:

1. Take my Style and change its FX and reSave it (not making a Style)
2. Get few Styles and try to Combine them using software or synth (not making a Style)
3. Starting with 0 Notes on the synth and then have a complete Style (that's Style making)

If you meant the third option then Yamaha will give you many limitations,
of course many people will say different but that's just plain wrong or
because they are in love with Yamaha...i know it is subjective which arranger
to like but me personally knowing both formats to the last function i actually
know for a fact what one can do while the other can't. With the PSR S Series
you will be very limited. To put that in simple language, the cheapest Korg PA500
has actually more complex and better Options for Style making then the most expensive
Yamaha Tyros 4...even though it doesn't sound better.
