Here are a few piano uploads using the Wersi Abacus, of which 2 I think have serious problems (I wont say which 2) however I am not sure if it’s a sample problem or that the Midi files dynamics just don’t match the normal playing dynamics of the sample. (Piano players tend to adapt their dynamics to the piano being played)

As to the sounds themselves, then there is no good or bad as it is down to personal preference, (The same applies to real pianos) but as there is a previous post on pianos I thought I would start this one specifically to allow owners to post their boards piano sample sounds just for comparison purposes.

No pre-processed factory demos, just straight out of the users board to 192kbs mp3

The Midi files used can be downloaded as a Zip file from http://www.4shared.com/file/92886558/5505a09b/Piano_Midi_Files.html (If you want them all in one) or http://www.svpworld.com/dnn/PSRworld/Pianoshootout/tabid/83/Default.aspx and http://purgatorycreek.com/ for the originals.

The 1st file is a C major walk up at Midi level 90
The 2nd file is a C major walk up at Midi level 127
The 3rd file is Moon River
The 4th file is the standard Purgatory Creek

Here we go then

The 1st sample is the GM sample from OAS 5, which has been reworked for OAS 7 but is still based on the Scope sound engine. (It’s also the main one used in OAS styles)

The 2nd sample is also based on the Scope sound engine and also reworked from OAS 5. (Also used in the new styles added to OAS 7)
http://www.4shared.com/file/92884584/43145a76/Sc_Grand_Piano.html

The following samples use the Hypersonic 2 sound engine which was added to OAS 7.

http://www.4shared.com/file/92883578/50ed322b/Concert_Grand.html
http://www.4shared.com/file/92883259/109376ba/Classic_Piano.html

The final sample uses my favourite Piano sound and comes from the True Pianos VST.

Before anyone says this is cheating, then please remember that the whole idea of an Open keyboard is to be able to use what YOU want, and not what the manufacture gives you.

Look forward to other uploads from SZoners. (Remember straight out of the board)

The mp3 conversion was done on the Abacus using Audacity.

Regards

Bill

Quite a lot of arranger's pianos playing the P Creek file are already up at the site, as well.

I am afraid that the files with identical velocities doesn't really tell me much. A piano's whole point, IMO, is it's dynamic range, and anything that doesn't test this and challenge it with REAL pianistic dynamics won't give you much of the picture...

Hi Diki

Its only the 2 walk files that have constant velocity, however I was more interested to see if others identified the same problem pianos as I have, (Or is it just me) as well as adding a tune that wasn’t Purgatory Creek.
