I finally made the purchase and have been enjoying my new Tyros for a couple of weeks now. I am getting more and more at ease with it but still stumbling a little on trying to connect it to a soundsystem and still get the monitors that came with the keyboard to work.
I am sure it must be something i am doing wrong. I can play the thing.... I'm just not very good at understanding the line in/line out technical stuff.
This is what I am trying to do:
Connect my tyros to exising speakers on a Casino Boat. But still have the monitors on the keyboard work.
With my KN 5000 I used to run a chord from the keyboard to the mix board and then plug the chord from the speakersystem also into the mix board and my sound would run through both their speakers and my keyboard.
Can't seem to get it to work with the Tyros.

Besides all that...I am very happy with it and seems like I learn something new everytime I play it. I havn't got much sleep though....can't seem to get away from it.

You will need to run 'two' chords out the Tyros Main Outputs, i.e. the {R L/L+R} on the back of the Tyros. The chords need to have 1/4" connectors on the ends. You then hook the other end of the chords to your Mixer's Line Input, e.g. Line 1/Line 2 of the Mixer's input. You then need to run chords from the Line Outputs of the Mixer to your Speaker system. You also may need to use cable (chord) adaptors on the chords going out the Mixer to the speaker system. You may have to go from 1/4" connectors from the Mixer to Phono (RCA) connectors on the Speaker System. Most 'home' sound systems use Phono (RCA) jacks for connecting other audio devices.

PS: You also have to make sure the chords going out of the Tyros are plugged into the 'correct' spots, i.e the Main Outputs. It is very easy on the Tyros to plug chords into the wrong socket because of the poor visibility factor on the Tyros' back panel. Use a flashlight if you need to.

Also I've never used the Tyros factory speaker system so to get sound out the Tyro's outputs when using the Tyros speakers too, you may need to plug the chords into the Sub1/Sub2 Outputs on the Tyros. Then go into the Mixing Console/Line Out and change the outputs to SUB1/SUB2 or SUB1&2.

Anybody else want to offer some tips?

Best regards,
Mike

Hi Candy , great to hear that you're doing well with the Tyros and glad to hear that you're continuing to do (and assume enjoy?) your riverboat casino circuit gigs as well.

To add to what Mike said:

In situations when I want to utilize other onstage monitor speakers than the Tyros TRS-MS01's, I have the Tyros MAIN OUTS (L/L+R) routed to the house PA system, and use the Tyros headphone jack output to go out to my onstage monitor: Motion Sound brand stereo keyboard Amp, which includes 2 separate Left & Right 1/4" inputs.

This requires a Y cable that has a male 1/4" stereo phono jack at one end, and two male 1/4" jacks at the other end. I got mine from Guitar Center.

As a former Technics KN5000 owner & gigging musician myself who moved up to the Yamaha Tyros, I'm confident you're going to appreciate the Tyros more and more. One thing I immediately appreciated on the Tyros over the KN5000 were the much more dynamic live sound of the drum fills, and Yamaha's superior method of triggering them (simply by selecting the associated variation). Because of the impressive presence of the fills, I've dedicated a foot controler pedal to this specific function (fill self) and find it really adds more natural realism to the auto accomp drummer.

Have fun,

Scott
