a challenge for technical nerds.

Dear nerds ,
As proud owner of a Yamaha 9000 Pro I red in the big manuel that there is a possibility to connect the 9000 Pro to a TV monitor .
Then you transfer the LCD screen of the 9000 to that TV monitor.
I tried it , and it is working perfect.
But such a monitor takes a lot of room in my little studio , so I am looking for the following possibility :
Can you transfer the LCD screen of the 9000 pro [ or another keyboard] to the monitor of the pc ?
What kinds of things or hardware or software do you need for that ?
Or is that “ a mission impossible” ?
Which technical nerds will advice me ?
Guillermo .

You can if you have a tv card in your pc!
Or a video card with tv IN!

hoi Willem,
Freddy is very right.
BUT I'm afraid your PCtje in Oegstgeest has no video(tv) input at the moment.
Do you remember which graphic-card you have ?
The yammie display looks great but there is soo (too ?) much information on it.
Perhaps it takes more time to get used to it ?
I do enjoy my B4 ....... do you ?

Your 'buddy' from Coevorden

Hello buddy from coevorden ,
Thanks for your advice .
The lcd screen of the yammy is indeed too small.
You need special eye glasses to have a look at it , or…when you can read it you are sure that it is not necessary to go within one month to a doctor or an eye specialist for your eyes are good !
There is too much information on it , not about the style and sounds, but all the other things .
So…the solution is to buy a little monitor or…as I understand now , to buy a tv card for my pc .
The first solution needs more room in my studio , the second not .
I will buy that one only when I am SURE that it will works !
Has anybody of the forum experience with that ?
And I think the price of a little monitor or a tv cards will be the same ?
About my sound card : I have a normal one which is INCLUDED in my harddisk .
You should buy a very expensive kind of soundcard , I forgot the name of it .
What are the results ?
Please inform us !
Guillermo

Guillermo,
You need a graphic card that has a (composite ?) videoinput...... a TV-card also has a built-in TV tuner. Nice to have but slightly 'overdone'.
I'm not sure about the price.
Your posting says 'harddisk' but you did type 'mainboard'..... did'nt you ?

The Terratec DMX6fire !!
Nice try Willem ...... but I must say it works great now, since the latest driver-update. For some weird reason my system needed a few reboots after installation :
It works without any trouble..... only 1 of my friends still has a not working SPDIF (digital) input. Next week we will investigate what is causing ..... as you know I'm one of the 'troubleshooters' / 'betatesters' of Terratec.......

the video out does not come up as very good quality on a television, similar quality to a fuzzy camcorder image.

hello technicsplayer,
you wrote "the video out does not come...." , you mean the video out of the 9000 pro ?
so you are suggesting to buy a grafic/tv card instead of a tv monitor to see a bigger lcd screen of my 9000 pro ?
do you have experience with that ?

yes, I tried it on SVHS and video input on a widescreen tv. Try it yourself, it depends how critical you are about fuzzy images. Many people put up with terrible quality off their camcorders!

I gave up and did not bother to try it with video in on my laptop. It might work better on a monitor, since monitors are designed for static images, and tvs for moving images, so a tv is not the best thing to use for a keyboard display.

But I would not buy a graphic card especially for this application without seeing the result first, because you might end up thinking it was a waste of money.

Have you ever seen the text from a Playstation or some other tv game on the TV? This is the quality you'll get. The best you can do is to buy a monitor with RBG input. This will give you the best quality. Remember the ones Commodore had(amiga)? This kind of monitor. The cheap tv card will give you similar quality or slightly worse.
The other solution that will work fine is to have a small tv (14in).
By the way, what do you mean that the tv monitor takes a lot of space? Your pcs monitor is smaller? Is it an LCD display or what?
