Should I be using balanced XLR cables from keyboard to amp? The sales guys at stores are telling me to switch and use balanced wires. Is that right? My powered speakers and my amp have XLR inputs. The 1/4 tips comes with 3 rings (balanced) or 2 rings (unbalanced). Until now I've been using just 1/4 to 1/4. Which do you use and which is better?

Comments are much appreciated.

PS I've read my manuals and I can't tell if my keyboards have balanced outputs. I have a Ensoniq, KT76, MES SK880 and a Soltron MS40.

If you're talking about grounded vs. ungrounded (speaker) wire, you need to use grounded wire between an instrument and the amp. No harm to anything if you do-just a lot of unacceptable noise.

Using grounded wire between a powerful amp and speakers can sometimes cause excessive heat and damage.

BTW I still have and use two MS-60's-your keyboard, plus speakers.

Hello Sglynn
This article here http://www.dplay.com/dv/balance/balance.html explains balanced cable.

I am not familiar with your instruments, but hopefully the article above will help to sort it out.
