I'm a piano player with little experience of organs. I've just joined a covers band playing obscure (i knew none of these bands when I joined) 60's sunshine pop. It's bands like The Groop, Strawberry Alarm Clock, Eternity's Children, etc. I'm interested in what organs they originally used. I presume bands like The Beach Boys and The Mamas and Papas used similar or the same instruments. I would also like to know what kind of keyboard I can buy today to recreate those sounds. I don't want to spend wads of cash but something mid-range would be affordable. Something light and gig-able too - perhaps a sound module as I have a stage piano. Any advice would be greatly appreciated as I really don't know where to find this sort of information.
Good Hammond organ sounds as well as Fender Rhodes and Wurlitzer piano ( both used a lot in the 60s ) and also good Clavinet emulation. The Electro 2 comes as either a light portable keyboard or as a rack module. Plus they really aren't too expensive compared with many other keyboards. Check eBay for deals on it.
Hi, If I'm not mistaken, the Yamaha S30 has a few of those older "combo" organ and maybe a "cheezey" organ in there too. They go for under 300 on ebay when they pop up. Just a thought.
Also a Roland Xp30 or XP60 likely has a few in there too.
God bless. Bob <><
