Our choir got a Yamaha PSR-730. Is there software for the PC (DOS/Windows) that can let me read, write, and format PSR-730 disks? I wish to transfer my MIDI collection to a PSR-730 disk and I cannot physically connect the Yamaha to the PC as they are located in different buildings.

Your 730 should have no trouble reading a standard MIDI file. I have put songs onto a regular formated PC disk, and they read fine in my 730. When a 730 formats a disk, it adds two files that are suppossed to help with disk operations. You can format a disk in your PSR, (or format several) and then just copy the songs from your PC onto the disks, and they should play OK. No special software or drivers are needed to do this. Hope this helps,

Thanks for that nadoboys,

Does anybody know if a 640 can do the same?

All the curent PSR's that have floppy drives use the same format. The discs are interchangable between machines and your computer. The only difference will be if a song has a style or voice that is not on the machine you are trying to play it on, it will either have that voice absent, or substitute something IT thinks appropriate. That is to say, the disks are fully upward compatible, going from a 640 to a 740 with no proplems, but from a 740 to a 640, you might have a change, then again, you might not. GM midi disks you get off the net should be ok, I have a fairly extensive collection I have gathered that way.
Hope this helps,
