Hello all,

I just acquired used Yamaha DX7 II FD. All internal voices and pathces are messed up. Also, according to the manual, there are some really cool presets in "Performance" patch bank, but that's gone too and has been replaced with some cheezy sounds.

Here are the pressing issues and questions

1 - How do I recover Internal Memory (32+32)
2 - How do I recover "Performance Memory"
3 - What is the floppy drive for?

I don't have any of the ROM cartridges (I've herad they do contain original factory presets)

Being an analog guy all my life, the digital FM stuff is uncharted teritory for me....

I have a home made manual that isn't clear enough on basic stuff, so any help or advice will be greatly appreciated... If anyone can explain the basic steps in plain english...it'll be much better and easier than to sift through the manual or the web.

Thanx

Hi Petey

You can use flopy for upload sounds.
Web is full of factory and other ROMs "copy-to-floppy" format.

You can load complete banks.

Interesting thing is Native Instruments FM7 software synth. It emulates DX7, sounds even better.

You can use DX7 PC-editor and send sounds via MIDI to your synth, complete banks or individual sounds.

I know that because I had DX7, now I have SY99, it's compatible using PC-software editors.
