I just bought a DX-21 and a VFP 1/10 pdeal, but when I plug the pedal in it works backwards (I depress the pedal to stop sustaining. Anyone have any ideas on what I can do to correct the problem?

Does your pedal have a polarity switch on it? If it does, just push the switch to the opposite side and the pedal will work in the normal fashion.

I checked that first thing. There isn't one. I'm checking with the store I bought it from in the next couple days. I may just pop the case and see if I can switch the polarity inside the pedal.

I just popped the case and there's no switch inside. Just the switch contacts, circuit board, and the cable going to the plug. Now I'm definitely going to call the store tomorrow.

Sorry to hear that.

Just in case your store cannot help you out, I want to mention 2 pedals with the polarity switch located outside:

1. The Signal Flex pedal (Model # SF2481)

2. The Satar pedal (Model # VST 125)

Both of these pedals are in the $20 US range.

I'm just going to buy a short cable (1/4" m->f) and a plug, wire it up backwards, and use that. But I'll keep your suggestions for future reference. Too bad I spent $30 US for this nice pedal.

Reversing the cable wiring won't make a Normally Open switch into Normally Closed. The best solution is to buy another pedal and make sure it is Normally Closed which is used by Yamaha, Roland, and I believe Kawai.

Fatar aka Music Products Inc. make or made a pedal called PS-25 which is switchable. That's nice when you have both N.O. and N.C. using gear. Otherwise the PS-15 or -150 would be the Fatar you want.

Believe me, any botched surgery could cost way more than any sustain pedal!
