Many thanks everyone for your suggestions. I've been thru every one of them and checked and double-checked the settings and connections. Unfortunately the result is unchanged, so it's off to the repair man. I'll post an update when I get my keyboard back.

Got my keyboard back today - all working again. The problem was a faulty -15V DC regulator, which was replaced. The repairman assured me it was nothing to do with my granddaughter's use of the keyboard - it was just an unfortunate failure of a part.

Good to hear that you got it repaired, and that there is spare parts to find.

I remember many years ago when a salesman visited me with a KN keyboard to try
out.
Youngsters still kids, and wanted to play, but acted a kind of hard handed in
my opinion. When I told them calm down, the salesman said that I should not
worry, if the keyboard could not stand the kids playing even a bit rougher than
we usually do, better not buy it. It's a instrument for all family to use, not
any knick-knack thing. I never forget what he said.
The top KN series are build like tanks, let the kids or grandkids have fun.

Happy Playing

Spare parts could be a worry, and that crossed my mind when I took the keyboard in for repair. I guess the -15V DC regulator is a generic part and so didn't have to be a Technics component, although I didn't ask about that.

KN7000 users may like to know (or may NOT like to know) that when I took the keyboard in and explained the problem, the repairman said that hopefully it will just be the negative 15V DC regulator. Seems to imply it wasn't the first case he'd encountered!

I am in the same boat as casarosa, I also spend most of my time in southern Spain.
It would be interesting to know for sure
if that part can be "generic" and also where
exactly it fits.
Mike, if you could check with your repairman
we would be grateful.

That voltage regulator is a standard OEM part and is readily available. This is the second failure that I am aware of for that part. Fran Durham's KN7000 also needed that part replaced.

I was talking to a genleman at Panasonic recently about a problem with my KN7000, in passing I asked if the KN7000 can still be repaired, he said they have a small network of repairer's available. I also asked if spare parts were still available and his reply was - Oh Yes !!

I've just received the following information from my repairer regarding the -15V DC Regulator, and Technics spares in general: "Technics used a KIA7915 (made by Kia). Any other branded part seems to work fine. Technics don’t make the part so any reputable supplier should do. As far as Technics parts being available. Some are ... some are not. Basically we try to order what we need and see what happens. Technics do offer a PCB recycle facility in Japan where they repair / refurbish the faulty boards. This is available only through Panasonic agents. You cannot go directly."
