I'm trying to make an intelligent decision on the purchase of my first portable keyboard. Am currently looking at the Technics KN2600 and Yamaha PSR2100 and would like some pro input.
I'm trying to stay in the under $2k market and would like the most respected instrument in that class (hoping there is one).
From what I have researched, the Technics is the better keyboard, but Yamaha is a better name in the music industry.
I've seen some really nice support sites for the Yamaha and am currently leaning in that direction.
If there is a lot of newbie dumbness in this query I'd like to know that too.

Hi DrayMan,

Just a thought about Technics vs Yamaha. Before we got our Technics our last two keyboards (both at the same time) were a Panasonic (aka Technics) and a Yamaha twin keyboard (vintage but still worked). Anyway, as you may be aware Technics is soon to be going to live with St Peter at the heavenly gates. So, as I said, just a thought - you might be able to save some dollars and get a better 'board by trying to get hold of a second-hand Technics. Although it's not truly portable a second-hand KN6000 can be had for anything less than about $700 and a KN7000 for anything under $1600.

It just makes you think. By way make a note our email address if you've got other ideas.

Thanks for the comments. I have what I think is a great price onf the 2600 and everyone I communicate with tells me it is a great sounding board and would prefer it to the PSR2100.
Only two things are making me a little aprehensive.
1.The going out of business thing.
2.Yamaha owners have so many neat user groups online.

I know the 7000 is too much for me to handle and everyting I have found indicates the KN2600 is the best thing around for the price and better sounding and easier to use than the PSR2100. No offense to PSR2100 owners intended. Just trying to get a board to keep me happy for a couple of years.

Hello............Keep in mind Yamaha's PSR3000 is coming out in a few months. "List" price is around $1700. I'm looking to upgrade my PSR2000 to it.
Some of the Technics styles I have converted to PSR are tops!!
