I'm trying to copy Technic Files from a 32 MB Card to a 256MB Card using Windows XP. I saved the files from the 32 card to a folder in my documents, then copied from that folder (drag and drop) to the 256 card. However the files do not appear in either the K7SDCard Tool or the KN7000 keyboard.
Previously I had to rename the files in the documents folders as to not over ride present files on the 256.
001 was changed to 025
002 was changed to 026.
etc.
I wonder why was the transfer not sucessful?
Thanks Again

basically because it can't be done like that. Use the merge function in song manager (the exact procedure you want is described in step by step in section 4.18 and 4.19 for multiple cards if you have the book).

Yes I do have the book, but not song manager

When I first bought the 256MB Card, I formatted the card on the 7000, and I was able to transfer songs (22 folders at 3 minutes each) from my computer WITHOUT using Song Manager or the SD CardTool. All I did was drag and drop the files from the 128 (saved on my computer) to the 256 using Windows and the Panasonic Reader Writer and they showed and worked on the 7000 and the SDCard Tool. When I tried to add more files from a 32MG Card, it did NOT work.

I'm just trying to figure out why the intial transfer from the 128 card via computer, reader /writer to the 256 card was sucsessful without Song Manager, and then when trying to add songs later from a 32 card the same way, was a failure.

Thanks for the help tips

song manager is on the cd supplied with the 7000.
You can drag and drop to a new card as much as you like, which will display the floppy file names, but as soon as you save on the card the inf file is fixed and you can't do it anymore. This is explained in 5.02.

Use our SD Card tool for file copy, but the advantage of song manager merge is all your long file names on both cards are retained.

Thanks , I missed the part "inf file is fixed after first save"

I'll give Song Manager a go

Can I do this with the Panasonic SZ-CB7 Reader writer and a computer, or is Song Manager only for the KN7000 connected to a computer

song manager will create a backup file to restore using a card reader or 7000 usb with computer, but 7000 usb will be far too slow for a big restore; get a card reader.

I have used the Panasonic USB reader, Panasonic PCMCIA reader and the SD slot built into my Toshiba with total success. Others have reported success with cheaper card readers but you may not (probably will not) be able to use others for digital audio transfer, unless they are specified for SD audio.

I wanted to make a "backup copy" of my 8MB card, so I bought a 2nd 8MB card, and used my Mac (and a generic reader device) to make an exact copy. It seems to work fine!

I just copied the entire folder structure onto my hard drive, then copied that onto the new card. Didn't do anything else. I only did a few LOAD test, and all seemed Ok. Is there any reason I should be concerned about a problem if I need to use this "backup"?

none at all, I described the same procedure on the Technote forum for someone, you just can't merge different cards without further editing this way.

Song Manager is a great way to back up upload, download, merge, and restore Technic and Midi files. It is much quicker if you use a Reader/Writer, rather then the 7000 to computer. I use the Panasonic Reader/writer that came with Jukebox. Anything other then the Panasonic SZ-CB7Reader/Writer may or may not work. I backed up, merged 2 cards... a nearly full 32mb card and a 128mb card, and retored the merge onto a 256mb in about an hour. Much faster then the 7000 to Song Manager

After listening to Alec, reading his "Getting the Most from your KN7000" book, I believe Song Manager and a SD Reader Writer is a must if you want to organize your many files.

In my opinnion the number one asset is the back up. That should be a must ..back up your SD Card with Song Manager !

I believe the best way for a sucessful merge of 2 or more cards to 1 is to:
Backup each card
Merge the backups into 1.
Format a large enough SD card on your 7000
Restore the merged backups to the newly formatted card

Remember backup.. repeat backup.. first !

Thanks
