I have bought the C.D. of Katie Mellua and her songbook.
The song I would like to learn to play is “The closest
thing to crazy” but the music is in 4 sharps.

Is there an easy way of transposing the sheet music,
into C, F, Bb, or Eb as melody line and chords,
as I am not able to read the full score.

When I go to transpose a song, I write out the scale of the key it is in, and then underneath it the scale of the key I want to play it in:
in your case, the original is in the key of 'E'
E F# G# A B C# D# E and if you want it in 'C'
C D E F G A B C ... a G# in the original key would be an E in the key of C

Hi there - I haven't answered your question about transposing, but I have sent you a simpler version for you to play.

It is possible to transpose midi files using Notation software but you have the CD only.

Spoke with Roger at our ECJ about this hit across the ditch. It is not the key but the different variations of timing (4/4,3/4 +) that makes it hard to duplicate the original very nice song. If you could sing like the performer you got it made.

John did a great job in converting to 4/4.

In England there is an EZE-Play version of Katy Melua's book called "Call Off The Search" available from most Music Shops. It has all of her latest songs in it and is well worth looking at.

I would like to take this opportunity
to thank all you great synth zone members, for
your helpful response to my request
for transposing, some very difficult
music [ I mean for me ].

I download the song “The closest thing
to Crazy” from the C.D. to my computer,
then into the Technics Audio Recorder,
made it into an mp3, loaded it onto a
SD disc, and played it on the KN7000.
Then using John North’s music sheet,
sent to me by Joan [Thank you John,
it is a great interpretation] I played along
with it. I shall have a lot of fun finding a
style, and sounds to go with it.

Audrey “Call Off The Search” is the book that
I bought to go with the CD, and the songs are arranged
for piano voice and guitar, some songs in four sharps,
and on four pages, and because I have had, no music lessons,
the “busker book” is about my limit.
If I had looked in the book before buying it,
I would have dropped it like a hot potato;
I was so pleased I had found a book with all
the twelve songs of the CD in it.

I will try Tony’s suggestion for transposing
the other songs in due-course
