Help! My BK-7m has gone unresponsive to its data wheel, and Roland no longer stock the replacement part. 😱 This basically makes the module dead, as you cannot select anything reliably on screen.

Has anyone had this issue and found a solution? I’m waiting on a service center to email me the service notes so I can see if there’s a potentiometer in the wheel assembly that might be externally sourced (like the BK9’s sliders can be even though Roland don’t sell the slider assembly) but if that proves fruitless, I may have to look at a replacement BK-7m.

So failing finding a way to repair, anyone got a BK7-m they want to sell? Even a non-working one that they know the hog wheel works?

Help! 😢

Oh man that's a bummer Diki. Is it just the "push to enter" functionality, or does it ignore scrolling too? You could try spraying some aerosol Electrical Contact Cleaner into the wheel assembly. Let it dry thoroughly before turning the module on. Was it dropped or mishandled? I imagine that this problem could also be caused by a broken solder joint or a broken wire.

BK-7m have now become rare and expensive enough to warrant consulting a good electronics tech (which I am not!) Definitely following this thread, as sooner or later we'll all have to deal with this issue.

Syntaur had the encoder in stock, I ordered two. Handy site. Thanks!

Only thing I wish the sight could do is filter results by whether in stock or not (did a bit of browsing around). They got just about every part in the catalog, but you don’t find out if in stock until you click on each item…

Btw, the push function still works, but the rotary encoder is the thing that is unresponsive. You can get it to switch between adjacent values sometimes, but scrolling down to out of sight parameters is very iffy. Totally useless given how many screens need to be scrolled through to get to lower items.

In my investigation of this issue I saw that the exact same scroll wheel is used on the Integra7 module, but Roland added four buttons surrounding it to improve navigation. It’s a shame Roland didn’t recognize how much the BK-7m needed this as well!

On an unrelated note, I might be tempted by a used Integra7 module one day. That’s a pretty impressive rack module!
