Hi All,

Here's a question I've been asked and couldn't give an honest answer to:

As the keyboards are now stereo, can two separate speakers be connected direct to the keyboard without having to use an amplifier? If not, why not?

Hi Audrey,
The answer is NO. The outputs from the KN7000 do not provide sufficient power, to directly drive speakers. You need Power Amplifiers to do the job.
The KN7000 already incorporates Power Amplifiers to drive its own internal speakers, but the outputs from these amplifiers are not made available externally.

Seperate speakers can be connected to your keyboard, provided they are ACTIVE speakers. That is they have their own built in amplifier power system.
I use two Behringer B2031's connected to either my KN7000 or Tyros 2 or Motif ES6, via an Alto S-12 Mixer.

Audrey,
Are you thinking of adding speakers to your keyboard?

Thanks Everyone for your replies.

Bill - that's why I wouldn't commit myself to an answer, just in case it should 'blow' our member's keyboard. Best to be safe than sorry eh?

Keith - your Behringer B2031 - I don't think I've heard of these speakers. Can you give further details on them including the purchase price and weight please?

John C - I'm using the Yamaha Stagepas 300 at the moment, but I find them a little heavy to transport if my husband isn't around to help. When this question came up, it got me thinking that perhaps there was an easier way.

See http://www.behringer.com/B3031A/index.cfm?lang=eng
Mine are the original B2031, the new ones are called B2031A (A for active)
You should note that these are studio monitors, that is ideal for small rooms but not for public performances (called near field)

Bill,
That URL indicates the B2030A which has a 6.75" woofer, the B2031A has greater power and a 8.75" woofer. For interest in Australia the RRP for the B2030A is $599 and the B2031A $699. http://www.behringer.com/02_products/group_index.cfm?mid=2&ID=200&lang=eng#STUDIO%20MONITORS

Apologies for incorrect link - however, probably still adequate for Audrey's application, if price is a consideration

Having done a search, the B3031/B3031A does not appear to be available in UK.

The Australian prices you quote seem a bit on the high side Converted to UK they are £244 and £285.

Yes, as usual RRP are not what you would expect to pay! I looked up the Great Britain price on the Behringer web site and that gives 242 and 289 pounds UK. (Sorry, I can't find a pound sign on my computer keyboard!!)
