I copied 5 disks with each 8 songs (sequencer songs format kn6000) to a sd card off 8 mb.
The card was full...
The five disks are only 3 Mb.
Where are the other 5 mb's ?
Very strange this Sd ?
It's starting to annoy me...and I just have my kn7000 for six hours.

You must have extremely large midi files.

I copied Technote midis (which are probably smaller than average) to the supplied 8 MB card. I got 94 midi files on the card with only 45 % of the space used according to the 7k display. This was about 3 MB worth.

I then copied Tune 1000 midis (which are probably bigger than average) to the rest of the supplied 8 MB card. This was about another 3 MB worth. I ended up with 171 midi files on the 8 MB card.

Hello Alec,
Each disk is 400 kb..
I copied 5 disks to the sd card off 8 mb and the disk is full..
In my knoledge 5 * 400kb is 2 mb.
I don't understand it anymore and I don't like this anymore.
I like the kn7000 but not the sd...
My hdsx6 with hdtechmanager was very good.
I hope they update very fast...

with no knowledge of which disks or files you are trying, I can't comment. Personally I might try formatting the card and starting again, because this does not sound right. I put 20 technics files on the card, these all multiple sequencer songs with setups, all with composers, most with sound edits, user pads etc and they took up 20% of the 8 MB space.

I personally think Smart Media cards are the way to go ,as long as there are no limitations and we can use 128 and 256 meg cards..

Alec, I think there might be a bit of 'Wire crossing' here. In Alain's first post, he mentioned 'sequencer song format KN6000' but in your reply, you say 'You must have extremely large midi files.'

Fran, smart media is a very poor format, they snap in half very easily, you can only protect them with a sticky label which leads to physical trouble when loading, they have a slow writing speed, and you cannot buy 256 MB cards.

Bill, a sequencer song format is a multitrack sequence without other files, the same as a midi file. Otherwise it would be an easy recording which depended on composers or presets etc In fact technics songs have the advantage of a compression factor when saved as nx, whereas midis saved as midis on the SD card do not. Therefore if I saved all the midis as nx I could expect to fit a further substantial quantity of songs on the card to those numbers I already quoted.

Thanks for the clarification Alec (Day not wasted - I've learned something) do you think Alain's files are maybe including composer, panel mem etc. Seems strange that they are taking up so much room. As you said, maybe the only way to resolve it is to 'see' the files in question.

well ten songs in the sequencer would increase the sizes appreciably compared to the more normal one. The biggest factor would be saving 10 setup type files (composer, panel, sound) and the relevant full custom, this would effectively halve the number of saves available in file number space terms, since a full custom in very general terms is approximately the equivalent of another 10 setup type files. In giving examples I have always specified the type of saves I am talking about.
