My next recording is of the classic 'Visage' track Fade To Grey.

I tried to create registrations with the sounds from 1980 when the track was released.

Again recorded on my Korg Pa700.

Nice - however for me the audio cuts out at 3:22!

It was a glitch in the recording

Really nice, reminds me of teenage years. I would have guessed it was from around 1984, 1980 is surprising. Totally 80s sound!

I always loved this era of electronica. Gary Numan, Human League (especially the early Being Boiled stuff), Ultravox, things like that.

If I may make a suggestion, I think you are still swamping your drums… Above all, this is still a DANCE song. And for that, the backbeat is the one element you CANNOT bury!

Try this as an exercise… instead of recording to audio, record to the sequencer. Now go into the sequencer edit and start turning down the pads and lead sound. See how far down you can turn them and still be able to hear the melody nice and clear. Find the point at which you can’t hear it well, then turn it back up one notch.

Now listen to how much better you can hear the drums, but still hear the lead… 🎹😎
