Nice.... I hope to see someone demonstrate the KB soon, especially the “ accent” and “ unison” feature.

Looks like a nice lower cost PSR-SX alternative.

PSR-S670 was a rather successful keyboard; for a reasonable price it sounded like a professional instrument and had a lot of controls. I see that Yamaha targets specific products of its rivals, in this case it was Korg PA300. Yet, it doesn’t want to sabotage its own TOTL products, so S670 was not very convenient without buttons on both sides of the screen. It would be up-to-date to put a touchscreen on SX600, but without new competitors from Korg or Casio there is not pressure to do so. Yet, there’s Medeli, but how serious can it be, given that it uses Yamaha’s sounds?

Specs wise

Upsides

73 Super Articulation 1 voices ( all must haves are there; SA concert gtr/ nylon gtr, SA saxes)for new $1000 keyboard ( remember Tyros 2 with 42 SA 1s?)
Decent piano sound (Live! Concert grand) , not new
415 Styles including 2019 Latin and dance styles
Multi-pads that can be sync to audio
16 tr recorder ( not comprehensive as Korg) and style creator
ARP and 2 live knobs
Ability read SFF & SFF GE style files (tons of free style library unlike Korg or Roland)
100 MB on-board memory for expansion data
Roland GS song playback in this price range
Unison & Accent to let Styles playback follow performance ( need to play it)
Compatibility with Rec'n'Share Apps and Mic input ( which has compression and Eq but no VH) - your audio with be in digital domain and easy to share
This can be great if you can upload within the app to share the recorded audio to your iPhone/ iPad for backing tracks without a need for computer ( sx700/900/Genos doesn’t have this feature). Need to read manual for details

Midi songs/ style play to audio recorder to UBS drive ( Wav. only)
128 poly
Better DAC
2 foot pedal ins ( you can use volume and damper both at the same time or use foot switch to trigger function while having sustain)
8 kg ( one of the lightest gigable arranger with mic in, direct song play ,style creation/seq and both Mod/ Pitch wheels and 2 footswitch ins and built in speakers)

Downside

No Mp3 playback ( pa300 , even Ek 50 can do this)
No midi sockets ( unfortunate trend for sub $1000 keyboards)
Same keys as 670 ( said to be in improvement, need to confirm)

You can download manual and data list from EU website

https://europe.yamaha.com/en/products/mu.../downloads.html

Korg should step up the game the new sub $1000 arranger ( Pa400?) correct the hardware mistakes of Pa300 ( 1 shared output/ 1 shared footswitch in)

For me, probably the main downside to this one is zero insert effects. 28 for the Genos, 8 for the SX900, 5 for the SX700, there’s a ton of power in creating a perfect sound by the use of inserts. A phaser for a Rhodes, a guitar amp sim for a lead, spatializers on synth sounds, secondary reverbs, weird echo effects, bass compressors, the possibilities are endless...

If you want to individualize your sound, nothing is as easy as strapping a few inserts across some of the style or SMF parts as well as your solo sounds..! For these alone I think the jump up to the SX700 is worth it.

Hi Diki
Welcome back smile
I agree. I was always frustrated with my KB until the Genos.
Finally. Now I can create the sound I want.
Especially with all my guitar amps ...
However, the SX600 is probably geared towards a different audience that does not know or care. Just plug and play.
I am sure there are plenty of people out there that just want to play. I know a few.
They would be overwhelmed with programing anything wink
At least we have a few choices now, which is a good thing.
Eric

The thing for me is, most of the time you play a keyboard sound, it loads with its associated insert effect. As far as the casual player is concerned, it’s easier if there are enough inserts that they never have to scratch their heads trying to work out why the same sound in a style part sounds very different!

The more advanced player can probably get used to working around effects issues and routing, strangely enough it’s the beginner that needs more effects the most!

As integral to main sounds as the insert effects are, it’s hard to imagine there isn’t a huge sonic difference between the SX600 and the SX700 upwards...
