I can get access to a cheap Genesys XP module, still in working condition. For a really nice price.. Back then i really enjoyed the WK2 and the SK880.. the genesys seemed to be the final cumulation of all GEM tech.. looked much better then the previous WK series.

So here my question, there where 3 models of the Genesys. The S, the Pro and the XP.. hard to find info and specs on them, but what where the diffeences between these other then the number of keys?

I have this module. It will boot (slowly), but very annoying to play because it won't retain any of its settings when powered off. The on-board backup battery has failed, and unfortunately it's soldered to the motherboard. I need a good electronics tech to help me replace the battery.

I fooled around with it enough to say that the sounds and styles aren't as good as TOTL products from the big 3 made in the last decade. Compared to the BK-7m or Ketron SD40, it's big and bulky. But I like the chord fingering options, and the feature set is very complete. GEM had some clever innovations, it's a shame they didn't survive. Overall i think this module is very comparable to a Ketron SD3.

I think storage is still floppy disk. There are aftermarket kits to convert to USB but they are expensive, and who knows if they really work? If I ever get the battery replaced on mine, that would be the next decision.
