Hi,
Wondering if anyone is running Pa3x without the backup Battery Pack. My battery pack I believe has worn out, ( standby light was flashing red/green) and it was suggested I remove it.
I removed it , it’s still flashing, red/green, I turned off memory , still flashing red/green,
Wondering if that is normal ?, or if I could have bigger problem.

Battery Pack isn’t a necessity apparently, only makes start up time a lot longer.

Korg apparently no longer make these packs, so it’s a case of DIY, or getting one made by an electronics person.

Haven’t bothered yet as I don’t use sampler on it, and start up time doesn’t worry me.

Thank you John,
I emailed them to ask if they can be shipped to Australia. I know some types of batteries can’t be shipped by air in Australia , might only be the lithium ones, I’d need to check further.

Main thing I’m really trying to find it is if the red/green flashing standby button is normal when battery is removed. Or it could be a sign of bigger problems.

Rikki....I think I told you I also have a PA3x. I haven't used it yet. Are you talking about the battery that makes everything work ("battery backup pack?")? I read that even if you DON'T play it, the battery dies after 3-4 years. I've been thinking about this for a while now.

Hi Mark,
Actually the keyboard will run without the battery, my understanding is, it helps boot it up more quickly. ie with battery , it takes just say 30 seconds to a minute to start up, without takes 2 or 3 minutes. Basically a lot longer.
My keyboard is still working. I was also told over on Korg forum to take battery out, and to switch off “memory switch “( something to do with samples which I don’t use anyway)

Apparently these packs are no longer available here, but, they can be made by someone with a bit of electronics ability, they’re just a bunch of rechargeables, with soldering involved. My dealer suggested going to a place where they specialise in batteries and ask if they can do it.

The more difficult issue with mine happened last year. The screen surround and the area around the joystick, developed what I decided to call “sticky plastic syndrome”.
I was planning on selling my PA 3X, went on a weeks holiday, came home and happened to touch the screen surround , and it was tacky. Still works normally, just this weird tacky surface Happened to a USB soundcard of mine too.
Found a few more people it has happened to over on Korg forums. Seems to be from more humid areas?
Might be worth checking out,

Thank you John, ordered a battery this morning, they said they can ship them to Aust. so, all going well, I should have one in a couple weeks. At least it will put me out of misery about the flashing standby light, and wondering if there is more wrong than just a dead battery.

Hi John,
My battery pack arrived today.

Thank you so much for the link. Battery is charging. Just a big relief to know that everything is ok.
