Bill...If I buy the board, I will have to reduce the voltage...not boost it up. I am 120v...the board is 230v.

Would the manual state if it is dual voltage?

Hi, Bill is right you need to boost your power up to 230 - 240 volts, to run the keyboard, your power is 120 volts so you need another 120 volts.
I have had a look in the manual and they did do a dual voltage i beleive, but i have had a look on the back of mine and there is no switch to change the voltage, hope this helps, all the best.

hi mike..

hey ...thanks...I will find out if the board has a switch to go from 240 to 120, because that is the only way I will be able to play the board here in the states. I am calling Tenhnics Monday and find out for sure...

Hi Mike,

You can purchase a step up transformer which will plug into your 120 Volt supply and give you a 240 Volt output to run keyboard which requires this voltage. Power rating of the transformer is important (needs to be at least 100 VA). When I was living in Maryland in '92 I bought just such a unit from an electrical component supplier. I can't remember the name of the company. It was something like Tristate.

Hi Mike,

My memory wasn't so bad after all. I just found Tristate's site on the internet at http://www.tristate-electrical.com
Their online catalogue isn't detailed enough to be sure about a suitable unit but the catalogue No. STNP8632 looks a possibility. This appears to be a 230/115V unit which when wired in reverse would give 230V from a 115V outlet (providing power rating is adequate). From memory this was the approach I used. You would need to have someone suitably qualified to safely mount it in a suitable box with appropriate connectors. Listed price of $64.50 seems to line up with the unit I bought also ($40 something in '92).

Cheers

Check out this site: www.220-electronics.com

It has several listed. How would I be able to tell how many watts I would need. As you can see, the higher the watts, the more cost. I just want to be sure I get the right thing. It doesnt look like I would need any electrician. The box looks already to go. Give me your thoughts...and thanks for helping me out!

Hi Mike, The power consumption stated in the manual, is 75Watts. However, to be on the safe side and to stop the transformer getting too warm on long sessions, it would be best to go for a power rating of at least 100Watts. Since there is only $5 extra on the 200W unit (in the www.220-electronics.com site) I would be inclined to go for that one - it would run really cool.
Also, if the board was intended for UK use, it will have our 3pin plug, moulded on the mains lead, which will not match up with any of the sockets on the transformer unit. However, the plug on the end of the mains lead, which mates with the KN is fairly universal so you should be able to obtain a suitable replacement mains lead, or if all else fails, you could always cut off the UK plug and fit a US or european one.

Hi Mike,

Bill has covered it well and I totally agree with his comments. As he indicates the plug on the KN is fairly universal and I would expect you would pick up a suitable cable from Radio Shack or similar.
