For me, I've found, that no matter how good the keyboard is, the final factor in the sound is the end of the chain; speakers or headset.

For me, a good headset gives me the most accurate sound I get from the keyboard.

Still, no matter how good the headset, I hear a different sound live through whichever speaker I choose to use.

For example, to reproduce what I hear through my studio level Sony headset in a live speaker, I have to do quite a bit of EQ'ing.

And even then, the sound is never quite as good as the (headset) in the speaker I use.

Thoughts?

Maybe the key word is "speaker". You are hearing stereo through the headphones, and a single speakers cannot reproduce that. Modern arrangers are designed to be heard in stereo.

You’ve said a mouthful. I used to edit thru headphones and when I played thru my PA it just didn’t sound the same, so I no longer edit thru headphones.

Indeed, never edit through headphones.
I had to throw away a mix that i worked on for days just because i was mixing the vocals on the headphones.

Sounded really well balanced on my headset, but when i played it back thru the speakers the vocals were way up front and it was lacking in bass.

Playing through Speakers the sound heard includes reflected room acoustics.
Through headphone you hear the sound direct without the room effects. That's why you are always going to hear the difference regardless of EQ adjustments.

Wel, actually reverb is your roomrefelction... so in a real room you have 2 reverbs, one from setting and one from real reverb... and thats a confict..
