For the first time in maybe 50 years, I forgot to take my recorder. I have every New Year's Eve performance recorded since back in the 70s, but not this year.
Here are the lyrics, so far:

Another year, is very near. I wish that you were too.
New Year's Eve finds me at home, alone, still loving you.
It seems so wrong the whole year long, but at this time of year,
It's even worse to count time down without your being here.

Life will go on, and time alone, will help to ease the pain.
Now it seems we'll never dream all our dreams again.
Tonight I wonder where you are and try hard to believe,
That you will stop and think a thought, of me this New Year's Eve.

We were so happy for so long, as life was meant to be.
But now you're gone and I'm alone and trying hard to see,
What went wrong, with our love song and changed the melody.
I guess I'll never understand, why you're not here with me.

Life will go on, and time alone, will help to ease the pain.
Now it seems we'll never dream all our dreams again.
Tonight I wonder where you are and try hard to believe,
That you will stop and think a thought, of me this New Year's Eve.
I hope you'll stop and think a thought, of me this New Year's Eve.

Sad yes. Thought provoking. Meaningful. Would love to hear the finished product.

Quite melancholy, ...
I too can't wait for the finished product, especially since during the second time I read it I had a little melody going through my 'little brain' ... wink

I'm afraid I'm not that creative on melodies. Have a crack at it if you wish.
I do have a chord structure in mind, but I have to play through it a few times to see what works.

Don, I’m betting you were not able to write lyrics like that 10 years ago.

Nice, John C

Thanks John. Actually I have always been a writer. Of course as we get older we have more experiences to call on.
As I think about it though, this song is similar to my Christmas song I wrote in 1969!

Fantastic lyrics, Don. Eddie just put the icing on the cake.

All the best,

Gary

Morning, Guys:

I thought Eddie knocked Don's lyrics out of the park. Don, don't beat yourself up if you "borrowed" a line or phrase from something you wrote earlier. All of us do it... maybe not intentionally, it has something to do with our Musical DNA!

Now you have a melody from Eddie... so, when time permits, I hope you'll give the song a crack with your vocal and playing style. No, maybe not today... or even for the sake of this thread.

You owe it to yourself to take this thing "your way"... and don't forget to give Eddie "equal top billing" when it goes viral. Its always good to hear and compare two versions of the same song.

B-T-W... I received the nicest "thank you" note from Eddie and was amazed at his humility and sincerity. I was quick to let him know how good I think he did with his unique vocal and skill at writing great melodies. We are a lucky bunch here.

Have a great day, ----West Mayberry Dave
