My New Ketron SD90 will be delivered to me on Wednesday this week. I will post updates about the SD90 in this thread and try to answer any questions asked here about the SD90. I loaded up the SD90 with all 3 Gold Packages, the AMAMSONIC package, and added a 120 gig SSD drive to it. So to get started:
1. I will use the SD90 with my Roland A-800 Pro 61 key midi keyboard.
2. On gigs I will be using a single Bose L1 Compact speaker.
3. I will experiment with using all my song setups from my Ketron SD7 which I owned for about 3 years.
4. It will be interesting to see if the SD90 can be controlled using the buttons and sliders
on the A-800 Pro keyboard. (I don't know how to make this happen yet)

Stay tuned for my personal evaluation and experience with the SD90.

>>>:- Yes ... if the A-800 can transmit SysEx codes, then simply enter in the required code (found in the SD90 Data tables) into each of the slidder or knobs on the Roland which you want to use to control the SD90!)

Stay tuned for my personal evaluation and experience with the SD90.

I took a quick look at the SD90 manual. Only a few pages. It is more like a brochure rather than a manual. I suppose you can refer to the SD9 Tutorial that I think AJ wrote as he had done for the SD40.
Anyway, it seems that you won't be able to use the buttons/knobs on the A-800 to control the SD9. I don't think the A-800 Pro sends sysEx the SD9 needs. I understand the Akai MPK series 2 can send sysEx. Some legacy Novation controller keyboards and control surfaces can program and send sysEx. I use some midi foot controller surfaces to send sysEx. One of them is the Gordius Big Little Giant 2.

Torch,
Thanks, I know NOTHING about sysex commands or how to use them but thought it would be neat if that could be done with the SD90. I believe the sliders and buttons on my A-800 Pro are not necessary for me to get the most from the SD90 but it would be nice.

Deane, We have the same unit coming in this week also. Oddly enough we also have an A-800 but not our controller keyboard of choice. Took a quick look at the manual and you should be able to setup sysx messages on the A-800 for things like Stop/Start, Break, Fill. We don't have plans of trying that but might give it a test run.

Check out the A-800 Pro editor for more:

Thanks Curt, I will look at my A-Pro 800 Manual. A question for you. Why is the A-800 Pro not your midi controller of choice?

This is a post for those of you who are well schooled in the process of using SysEx midi commands.

I have used Dan's vArranger for over 5 years with my Roland A-800 Pro 61 Key controller. Within Dan's software is a method to assign functions to sliders and buttons of your choice and is very easy to use. So, my question is this: are all SysEx midi commands the same or do various devices use different SysEx commands to do the same thing?

I was wondering if my current setup on my A-800 Pro just might function properly with the Ketron SD90.

Good question - We are a big user of Native Instruments Komplete and a few other VST’s that support NKS. So, we use a Komplete Kontrol S61 MK2 controller. That h/w s/w combo gives us very nice integration with Logic Pro X which is the DAW that we use. They just released a 88 note version that would be a nice upgrade.

If you have been using the A800 with another Ketron SD* unit I would expect some of them to work while you may find that you have to “fine tune” some of them for the SD90.
Now you have me thinking about dusting off my A800 and giving it a go!
