I think that's the problem. The keyboard is a 1994 Solton MS 60. Dug it out this week-end to use the drums for a project. Noticed the programs I created don't work. Think it's a battery. Questions are: Is this thing worth repairing (I played it 4 nights a week for 20 years). Is this an easy repair for a general electronics shop? Over the years, I've had people tell me this ancient thing is sought by players of Portuguese music...is that right? How much are they worth?

I haven't used it as an arranger for years, but really like some of the drums for film work.

HELP!

Russ

Typical for solton era modules like ms40 it was based on.Have to plug in occasionally to recharge battery for memory, so yes custom program memory may be lost. Not an expensive replacement if you can find a guy nearby. I've seen ms60s go for around $500.
It has a floppy drive- any chance you saved your custom work on disk?

Battery empty, should not a problem, if you have a backup of your personal files..

Battery leakage, can kill your instrument and whole pcb’s, could be disastrous..

Donny, NO! I'll NEVER have anything to do with AJ.

I'll throw the damn thing in the trash, first.

Some years ago I was visiting a dealer whom I had purchased a few solton and ketron modules from. While there someone brought their solton module in saying it worked when he put it in closet but now just powers on no sounds/styles. Plugged it in for awhile and everything came back. He took it home and plugged it in for a day and it was fine..

If I recall correctly, this model has a small, storage battery that is mounted upon the mother board, which is not easy to get to. Pretty typical of keyboards of that era. If the battery dies, so does the internal memory storage, which limits the usage of the keyboard to floppy storage only, but even this may not be functional without the battery working.
