I have never had a Ketar, but played accordion many moons ago. This thread led me to thinking again about a light.simple setup for small venues. I could use it with my SD40 with harmonica and vocals, or, even solo. I am looking at the new Alesis Vortex 2 @ $299.

I know Uncle Dave has one, and would like anyone's opinion. It is wireless with a proprietary dongle(USB) and standard midi. I don't know enough about wireless to know if it would work with the SD40, but would with a laptop.

The biggest issue I have using these with arrangers, is that all keytars are made to be played with the right hand.
If I'm going to play keys and sing, I want to control the accompaniment (LH chords and bass) just like I've been doing at home for years. I'm afraid if I try to relearn the chords to my favorite songs right-handed, I'm only going to confuse myself!

It seems to me that a keytar-like instrument could be made such that the keyboard controller and "neck" could be configured by the user for left- or right-handed play.

If not, I guess another mobile solution is this... :-D

I thought about that, but I bought a brand new Roland Lucina (black sparkle) to play long with backing tracks, however, one can play split in horizontal position, even though I don't count on that. The sounds are top rate, or I can go midi with the SD40. It will never compete with my arrangers, but then, I don't intend it to. It will be a fun addition to my gigs.
