The Montage got bad write ups as people were treating it as a Motif replacement, whereas while it had some Motif features it was at its heart a synth, not a Workstation, and when people realised this it became a good option.

I feel the same applies to the Genos, in that while it has some tyros features, it is aimed more at the creative/production user rather than the typical arranger player, hence the disappointment from some existing Tyros owners, however when people accept it for what it is, (NOT for the old fogies brigade) it will take its place in the market.

Since the T4 went (I was never impressed by the T5 as it seemed like a dumbed down T4 with incomplete add on features) the go to TOTL arranger has to be the PA4x, as while sophisticated in what it can do, it also works well for the Old fogies brigade, something which the Genos doesn’t.

Interested in what others think

Bill

As a member of the OFB, I appreciate your assessment, and am happy with my Pa4X.

Yamaha is aiming for younger people/ home music production etc... But they forgot to include tools needed for all that. Not dumb down versions as you already mentioned.

Why do you think it is not for the old fogies brigade (me)??
I care mostly about sound quality...and the styles I need for music I like.

I don't think we know much about either yet??

At least the sound by sound...style by styles demos have not been done....Have to play one myself soon.

Genos is not all the hype we've been hearing for 1 year now.

maybe the pre advertising did the reverse?..would it have been better if they didn't hype genos
to the extreme like they did & just let the players tout its attributes on its own credits after playing it?
word of mouth is a powerful thing..

Ya know, I really didn't see any hype coming directly from Yamaha - it all came from individual speculators on forums such as this one. How about someone showing me a link to a Yamaha advertisement for a Genos prior to it's release. smile

Accoring to many of the uk dealers and German dealers, the Genos presales, where better then any Of the Tyrosses..

Also for the first time, there seems huge interest for Genos from middle east and south east asia..

Source one of the biggest Genos/tyros shops in Germany (on psr tutorial)
