Thanx everyone for the pics...I used to use an A frame years ago when playing multiple KBs in bands and had the time to set up before a gig,....but later on found it cumbersome to carry an A frame setup take down etc, for in & out jobs vs an Apex or K&M but always went back to a sturdy X double tier X stand with a separate laptop stand which works for me ..

That USS Apex was the WORST stand I ever owned, in terms of stability. There were two very volatile points (from each side) that could topple the rig over, regardless of kb size or weight. It had a serious design flaw in this respect. Sure, it looked cool, and if you were not set up near people drinking or dancing .... maybe, it'd be safe, but I was always worried about it.

I love having wide open space below for pedals and such (although I don' t bring/play MIDI organ pedals very often any more)...

That's exactly the way (and height) my setup was. But I also used a third keyboard to my right that I managed to set up on a tier between the two keyboards to my front. Those stands were fantastic....the whole setup fit in one carry bag and weighed less then Tiny Tim.

Donny....you've been around long enough to know what you're comfortable with, but......an X stand? I don't get it.....unstable and nowhere to put pedals down.

Don't misunderstand, the few times I play out now with my arranger I use a simple restaurant tray stand. But I'm constantly, every minute, concerned about it falling off. Never had those "worry" thoughts when using the USS stands.

My next questions goes to a new reply box.

There's something I never understood.........why companies sell them and WHY musicians buy them? These stands with a column in front of you and the tiers branching off from the central column. Are people that desperate for "carrying" convenience and less weight that they use these risky stands? And........no room for foot pedals? How do you function as a OMB without......foot pedals?

Almost forgot, those stands were so versatile I even set up a microphone arm on the top of the left frame. Just put the mike in it and pull it down. You can see the mike stand crossing my chest in my photo.

I would buy from Walmart if the product was useful to me. I use the Ultimate Support IQ2000 with an On-Stage boom attachment. I always stand to play and I only use a sustain pedal. Quickest and easiest setup that has a solid foundation for my keyboard. I thought the boom mic on the stand would create noise, it doesn't. Roll off the 100hz and below and have a good mic and then you are set.
