Just got my AKG 553 headphone from MF. Wow is all I can say. Everything is so clear and they are plenty loud enough plugged directly into my BK9.

Thanks again Jer for the tip. These are a keeper.

Senn HD650. They simply blow the HD280 out of the water, IMO (I have both).

If you mix through headphones, try these out. Quality and comfort and amazing results, without using monitors.

I use the SENN HD 280s because they are closes phones.......
although the HD 650s are terriffic as an OPEN BACK set of phones for playing KB etc,.. but IMO for Recording you will hear everything outside of your phones in your recordings and you don't want that at all,..

For the price difference the 280 are still a perfect match, espescially if you want as Donny says a closed system. It has a very flat characteristic.

Oh I don't know about hearing everything outside the phones. I guess it depends on how quiet your studio is. All I know is I mixed through the 280s and the mix was dreadful. I remixed and balanced through the 650s and the results were astonishing.

All the hoopla about FLAT for recording is probably true. I hated the HS8s and unloaded asap. I mix through the 650s entirely and would never use a monitor again.

And for anyone recording on the skinny - I use the Tascam DP-03 CD and the results are truly fantastic. I paid $99 and am blown away.

don't be fooled I can definitely hear the music in my Vocal tracks recordings when using any "open pair of headphones",...especially with a good studio condenser recording Mic,..........mixing is a different story having both versions closed for recording and open for mixing is the way to go..
