Our town had an outdoor "Festival of Spring" today in which I played an hour set. I was in bright light, but not in direct sunlight, and I could absolutely not read the KN7000 screen no matter what the adjustment of the contrast setting. By cupping both hands tightly around the screen I could just make out enough to guess what I was loading, ETC.
The upshot of the whole thing is that if you expect to play under these conditions, be prepared to experience this problem.
I hope that I can fabricate a light shield or hood to place around the screen to help.
I'm on the program again on the 4th of July, so I hope something can be made to work before then.
If anyone has any ideas, please let me know as this was a real problem.
Walt

Plug er into a big TV screen and you can throw away your glasses too.

Doug,
I guess that would work, but my back aches now from lugging all the stuff around that I have to take. I think that I would prefer a lighter weight answer.
Cheers and Happy Mothers Day to Ruthie and all the rest of the forum afilliated mothers.

Walt, on the general forum there is a thread now about outdood gigs. Read it and I think my suggestion is as good as any of theirs. If worse comes to worse get the little lady to handle the TV.

I was playing an outdoor job with my KN2000. This was years ago. I'm in Florida where the sun gets very HOT. Not only did I find it difficult to read the screen, but the keyboard stopped working. I put the keyboard in a shaded area. After 10-15 minutes the keyboard began to work again.

Playing in a direct sunlight is a no, no. John C.

If my memory is working (sometimes), I believe the manual for the kn6000 spoke of optimum operating temperatures and at what point the kb might be affected ...
On the S-Z Gen Arr KB page, several players have talked about 'sun shields' that they 'manufactured' out of cardboard to place over and along the sides of the screen to shield the sun ....

You can make a simple shield. If you have any black cardboard fashion a shield...use velcro to
attach it then you can remove the shield when
you do not need it. I have used this type shield and it works. Mel in the Florida Swamp

Hey Mel, when playing outside, did a gator ever eye up your board for lunch?

Thanks everybody,
It looks like the detachable light shield is the most simple device. I wonder if anyone has experimented with various window coverings, like polaroid or TV glare shield screens or the like?
