My little mini Schnauzer, Ernie was put to rest Sunday. He was only 5 1/2. He was my best friend, the most wonderful dog God ever created. We miss him so much. I have to play today and don't have a clue how I'll get through this performance. Just writing this is part of therapy. I'm trying everything to get pass the grief.

So very sorry to hear this Zuki. Our pets are family and it is so very hard when they pass on. But you gave Ernie the very best life possible and you know he loved you for that.

Jim, I understand. I have a 6 year old mini now, along with a 10 month old wiener dog. My Great Pier just passed at 12 years...really old for that breed.

You are the kind of sensitive guy who also benefited from the closeness while you had that dear little one.

Many people never see the highs in life you do. The downside is the sensitivity to all things, and the death of a pet is a devistating event.

That little one was so lucky to have you.

I feel your pain, 4 years ago we put were forced to put to sleep our 9 year old Bichon Friese. This happened on a Sunday late in the afternoon both my wife and I were so upset we both called out sick from our jobs. Only time will heal the wounds your pup was young at 5 1/2.
