Would like to hear from ALL new Korg PA4X owners and what are their likes and dislikes. Are you pleased with the Songbook and Set List entries. Would also like comments on styles and voices. This forum
is for things like this and since it's been quiet here, let's join
forces and make comments. Should make Korg owners and future Korg
owners make better decisions when it comes to choosing a board.
Should be an interesting topic. Lloyd guitar

As I've mentioned many times, I love mine. Great new sound generation source, excellent styles, live sound, wonderful vocal processor/harmonizer, Songbook is great, abundance of real-time controls.
There is a problem with the screen. Several users have reported, as well as me, that the lock-down mechanism has failed. It doesn't affect the usability, but is something that should be addressed when it happens. I have an appointment to take mine to Dallas for them to fix it.
I think I've read of 3 or 4 others that have the problem, so it's probably quite isolated.
It's by far the best arranger I've ever owned. Not perfect, but I probably won't be in the market for another one in this lifetime! smile

Yes the new Korgs are nice ...but everyone is just waiting for the next generation of Yamaha arrangers which should prove to be awesome in many ways!!

DITTO to what Don said. Sound wise, the Audya is the only board that compares with it(for me).

I doubt there will be anything revolutionary from Yamaha. If anything they will cut more features. Look at Montage.

Despite being an awesome key, it keeps raining reports of OS bugs over on the Korg forums

http://www.korgforums.com/forum/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=104820

But it looks like ther is a major patch coming one of these days as indicated by Paolo in hte above topic on the Korg forums.

There will be some herritage from the Montage for sure...
As well as as the latest new stuff from the PSR S970...

Personally, i think the Tyros will set another step towards a workstation (With the montage moving away from workstation) which also leaves room for a new PSR PRO arranger keyboard, with Tyros 5 properties like SA2 and ensemble voices...

Since I started this post, I will say that I am very happy with the PA4X. With help from my friend Steve I have been able to
use Songbook and Setlist. Nice way to get your stuff in the
Korg. Sounds are excellent and styles are really "live".
So far my screen is working fine. Hope they find a fix. Lloyd

Dan,
Yes, I own the Korg PA4X. I am very happy with it after working
with the Korg OS. A friend of mine, Steve from R.I. has worked
with me to learn the Songbook and the Setlist, two very nice
features of the OS. The Korg is nice and compact compared to
the Yamaha Tyros 5 which I previously owned.

I have had no hangups so far and the screen adjustment mechanism
is working OK so far. Sorry to hear a few owners have had some
major problems with the adj. screen. Only way to really know
if Korg is for you is to go to a dealer and demo. one.
My dealer is Frank at Audioworks Ct. His prices are the very
best and he is a honest and caring dealer as many folks here
on Synthzone will attest to. Regards, Lloyd

Particularly in view of the small chance the screen might need attention, a great dealer is certainly necessary. No one would be better in this regard than Frank!

Don M,
Nice of you to give Frank his kudos. When things happen that require a dealer to step in, Frank is always there. This means
a lot in the case of the Korg screen mechanism. Lloyd

New Tyros:

Possible scenario?

Introduced 2018?
Available in limited quantities 2019?
Bugs worked out and in full production 2020?
Priced at $7,000?

If I wanted a new arranger and was debating buying the next Tyros vs. Korg PA 4X; don't think I'd wait around for something new from Yamaha.

expected scenario :
Introduced autumn 2017
Available in large quatities winter 2017/2018
No bugs to be mentioned, after all there where no real bugs in tyros , just minimal hindrancess

Price €4200 - €5400 depending on how advanced it is...and if there will be a psr s900 pro series

A lot of the new technollogies from the Montage like 2 dsp effects for every sound will find their way into the tyros5 replacement..

That's the adjustment ... I bought a used (mint) PAAS speaker bar too. This might be the ticket for this season. Fingers crossed ... I was SO comfortable with the PA900, but I want the state of the art as I venture ahead. Call me crazy, but when you buy the best, it's always rewarded at time of sale, if need be.
Now, the only gripe I have is getting the harmonizer to work in the song play mode. It's being stubborn at the moment. It only wants to trigger midi notes from the songs - I need it to just follow my hands. Anyone?

I did have one before, and I tried go use it with my current KB/mic boom rig. The bar places the boom too far back, so I'm going to try a regular boom and see if it annoys me. This thing sounds too good not to give it a proper test drive. It's light years ahead of the PA900 in overall sonic goodness, which I found hard to accept at first. The clarity of the upper and lower ranges is astounding. It's a pretty good case of "I didn't know what I was missing" until I heard it. I have to say, given key feel, sounds, styles, and deep editing ... its the best keyboard I ever played. Maiden voyage tomorrow night at the dueling piano thingee at the shore, then more tweaks on Sunday before taking ig to my main stage at the Crab Trap. I'm stoked ... I really am. If all goes well, the 900 will sit in my studio and be in reserve for the 1 hr afternoon cocktail/NH type gigs. I'll share more as I learn more.

Its a toutube video.... I think if youtube video's are not suited for something then its for judging speaker soundquallity

I meant to say, never heared it live

It's LOUD, stereo and great looking. Just makes the rig a bit deeper than before. and makes me use a separate mic boom stand, but time will tell. It's sounds better than any onboard speaker system out there. If you need in your face monitors .... there's nothing better

Hi Don,
Do you think it's because you're gigging with it?
Ie you have to fold the screen when you pack it up or something?
Haven't seen one , don't know how it works, but gather it is different to my pa3 x screen.
Do you think one would have the same problem for home use ?

Hi Rikki,
No it doesn't have anything to do with moving it. One of the guys having the problem has never moved his. I'm very careful with mine. It seems that only a very few of them are having the problem. I think I've heard of three or four out of the thousands sold. I'm just one of the lucky ones!
I haven't taken the time to get my into the shop yet, but will pretty soon.
I certainly wouldn't let it deter me from buying one.
Go for it!

what has to be done to fix this problem? if it is a problem?..
design flaw, cheap locking mechanism, or what?....as long as it stays up and you can adjust angle should be a problem while playing right?... up or down thats it..nothing is perfect

No, it is totally adjustable to any degree. The only problem is that it won't totally lock down. It does not affect the functionality. I'm sure it is an easy fix, probably an adjustment, but we'll see.
I thought about opening it myself, but not sure if it might void the warranty, so I'll wait.

so your saying it doesn't LOCK DOWN?....that's no biggie ....as long as it stays up and can be adjusted to different angles,....when it's down or in the case what's the difference if it locks or not? confused1

Hi Don,
Thank you.
I wouldn't touch it , if it was me. Warranties can be tricky ( or at least over here they are), you wouldn't want to do something that might void it , especially if it's a 25 year keeper haha.
May be one step closer to getting one YEH!! Poor hubby , I'm still working on him. He's wearing down. Haha

Only thing I'm not too keen on, is going thru the hassle of trying to sell my pa3x, too bizarre even for me , keeping a fourth keyboard.

Thanks Don.

Well,
if anyone reading this thread wants a PA4X I still have my three-week old one for sale.

Hi Deane,
If you live a few thousand miles closer, I might have considered it. Haha

Hey Dean!

Wish you would hurry up and sell yours so I can put mine up for sale! Don't want to flood the market.

Hi Rikki, Long time no see!

Why is everyone selling their pa4x units?

Hi Don,
I've had quite a lengthy break, but I'm BACK. Haha

Goodness gracious,
Why are planning selling yours too?
Just doesn't suit?

Rikki good to see you posting here. My crystal ball tells me there could be a Pa4x in your future! As we know you can buy lots of arrangers for every high performance car that others buy. ha

I think almost everyone is still very happy with their pa4x...

But in general why are people selling keyboards they have only recently purchased?

Probably because they never got a chance to test them extensively before purchasing them? I think its only possible in the music buiseness, buying something for 1000's of dollars and then selling it again within a few weeks.

Its not only a pa4x problem, we have seen this with almost every major release of a new keyboard in the past decade..

Yes, rotten luck for me he finally found a car he Luv's a couple of years back.
Bad timing, as the pa4x wasn't around.

Used to work out well, he'd get a new car, I'd get a new keyboard.
Actually , I might have been on the wrong end of the deal. Hmmm. Haha

There is a new feature (maybe I missed before) that allows each vocal preset to be assigned to a particular trigger ie: upper1, upper2, etc - this is what I needed to set so I can trigger in song mode.
