My wife and I played an afternoon gig at our church for a group of about 50 seniors. I decided to use our S970 and one Bose Compact.
Since we were doing some old time gospel, I decided to go into the mixing section and eliminate most of the drums on the styles we used and change the bass type to an upright bass.
Here's the thing. These modified styles sounded great on the S970 speakers in practice. However at the church, in a room with very active acoustics, the S970 through our Bose Compact was very 'boomy' sounding. Very hard to hear the tempo. Top that off with the fact that I moved the Compact away from my wife and I to eliminate feedback.....
As my Gma would say...ooofta.
Knowing that I had made many classic mistakes with sound, I told my wife she was right, the sound was wierd at best.
Three things:
(1). We got tons of compliments on our performance. Neither my wife or I could figure that out.
(2). Never again will I rely on our S970 speakers in practice. I'll listen through the PA.
(3). I learned the best styles for sing along are sometimes the simplest.
PS. The next day I used our S970(same program) with the SSV.3 that we have...I was very impressed....that's a separate thread.
